Hello there! Thanks for taking time to read my review of this amazing church.
I want to begin by letting you know that I have attended Victory Family Church for 18 years. I have served, attended classes, participated in small groups, and spent personal time with the leadership. I say all of that to let you know that the review you’re reading is from someone who got to know Victory thoroughly before making an assessment.
Originally, I was dragged to Victory by my high school girlfriend’s mother. I was not a Christian at the time. Truthfully, I didn’t believe in God at all, and I openly communicated that to my family. Still, I knew I needed to make my girlfriend’s mother happy, so I unhappily decided to visit the church with her one Sunday. People at the church had to know I hated being there, as it was written all over my stern face and in my crossed arms.
To my surprise though, no one was pushy, no one was mean, and no one ever made me feel judged. No one was acting weird or doing anything that made me feel uncomfortable. In fact, within the first service, I knew these people had a joy and a love for life that I didn’t. I wanted to know more about it, so I kept coming back.
For months, all I experienced was people shaking my hand, giving me a hug, asking how I was doing, and just getting to know me. No one pushed Christ on me or told me I needed to change. Really, they let God change me from the inside out. That’s really the only way a heart changes for good. Gradually, my heart did change. I accepted Christ, I started worshipping during service, I stopped doing all the garbage I used to do, and I felt joy and belonging in my heart.
Over the years, Victory became more than a church to me. It became my second home, it became my family, and it became my training ground. Through Godly principles and excellent leadership, Victory taught me how to handle my finances, how to be a Godly husband, and how to exercise my faith to discover God’s purpose for my life. They’ve challenged me to break outside of my own world and to see people the way God sees them. They’ve given me opportunities to serve, to love, and to financially support others. When my father passed away from cancer, Victory was there for me. When I needed guidance for a major career change, Victory was there for me. When I went through personal crises, Victory was there for me.
And you know what? That’s just what the’ve done for me! Over these last 18 years, I have seen Pastor John and Michelle Nuzzo and their excellent staff support, encourage, cry with, pray with, and stick by thousands upon thousands of people. I have seen them be there for the widow, for the fatherless, for the hopeless, and for the speculative, just like I was when I first walked in the door. In today’s world, you don’t thrive through 25 years of ministry and go from a movie theater to their current facility without truly having a call from God, as well as an honest love for people, both those near to and far from God.
I could go on and on about Victory Family Church, but honestly the only way to experience it is to come see it for yourself. Come for multiple weekends, take time to get to know the great people here, learn about Victory by attending the Our Church Experience, join a small group, or come to an event and ask people why they love Victory. Hopefully, you’ll love it as much as I do.
Again, thanks for reading. I hope I see you at the...
Read moreVictory is a family! I’m overdue on this review since I have moved to Florida…but I think they say: hindsight is 20/20. There are so many opportunities to serve and get involved in smaller groups that are likeminded! I have lived in quite a few places and attended many churches. One thing that stands out to me is the authentic care from greeters, ushers, and volunteers. Sundays, conferences, small groups, I have been connected with by sincere believers. Large churches tend to be difficult and visitors can slip in and out but there are so many opportunities to serve for one time events or ongoing needs, the church gets small very quickly. Also, I want to compliment the small group set up. Of course, aside from worldwide pandemic, the small group offerings are diverse and provide powerful encounters or casual! It’s set up in short sessions so if that group isn’t for you, there are many more to try next quarter. But it’s not hard to find relatable people to do life with. Two more even more important items. Pastor John is incredible. Ridiculously unassuming and humble, yet doesn’t approach the pulpit without a well spoken word. There are a lot of ditches churches can get stuck in and over obsess but Pastor John navigates them well. He doesn’t discount the power of the Holy Spirit. His voice and heart is well balanced, gentle and yet is challenging. I applaud him and his wife for staying the course! Last, I had beautiful encounters with God alongside the praise and worship team. There were two who would lead worship that were sensitive enough to share encouraging words that kept my heart afloat during difficult times! This is a great place...
Read moreWent to the church last two Sundays. I could get over the purple lights, fog and overall rock concert stage. It was disturbing though that the sanctuary had no cross, and didn't see a single member bring a Bible. Had to laugh when the "Director of Experience" took the stage. Don't recall that position in Eph 5.
On week one, I begged the pastor to come out with us just one time to an abortion clinic in Pittsburgh. He refused. He said his ministry is within the four walls of the church. Pittsburgh has over 350 churches - and not one person goes to plead for the lives of the unborn children who are being murdered. Same for Victory Family church. On week two, I brought a fellow believer with me. When we left the church, I was confronted by a three man church security team because I had the audacity to leave a abortion tract behind. The head of security named Mark, actually got in my face about it! I was ordered not to leave anything like that behind again. The really strange part was - none of that was needed. He could have simply thrown it away and no one would have been the wiser. Instead, he said he saw me put it down on their security cameras. Turns out they were watching us from the moment we entered the church. (Maybe us carrying bibles meant we were trouble.) I would say this "church" has more in common with Big Brother and Scientology, than they do with Christ! If cult churches are for you - then by all...
