One of my favorite places to visit in hot weather!! Especially when you want open water that isn’t an hour away from Tallahassee. Fun area filled with friendly college and high school students most of the time. The wildlife is super neat, where you always see a turtle or two and fish! There’s also a few ropes and areas to swing or jump off from into the water which is one of my favorite things to do here. Very fun place if you’re okay with a lot of dirt and rocks.

I recommend bringing a floatie or two because it’s hard to get in the water otherwise. The water is VERY deep, spanning around 70 something feet. I would also bring extra tennis shoes to walk that mile or so walk TO the sinkhole from the parking lot. Its an experience to prepare for, so definitely pack some bags of these things...

So we got to the park at 3:45Pm . We started our hike assuming that the park would be closing at 6PM as it was listed on all the places we looked . We hiked to the hole it was now 4:15pm just to have the park ranger tell us that the park would close at 4:45 and the gate would be locked at 5 pm . The trail is a road but it did not have markers that are easy to see how far you need to go to the hole . Every thing we read said the park was open until 6 . So we did not see much of it . The times not being posted right made this a big let down . The park would be a nice place to eat lunch , we seen people swimming . But they were rushing to pack up too , because of the time not being...

Nice place to swim. Clear water, nice temperature. Not anywhere to wade, so I will bring a noodle float next time so I can hang out in the water longer. The walk in is about a mile, but easy hike and good exercise. We did come back with some ticks, so make sure to check yourself. Not too crowded in late March. The rangers came around and said it closed at 5:30 and we started walking to the car a little after 5. Got to the car about 5 minutes late and we, along with 3 other cars, were locked in the gate. Why don't they just tell everyone to be out by 5:30 and wait to lock the gate until 5:45 or 6? Considering it's a mile hike back to the car? I found that a...

Beware Google maps tried to have us turn on a fire break road. The actual road to the parking lot is right across from the old Wakulla Park Drive. Go down the one lane road and it opens up into a decent size parking area. Have cash, Pay at the un manned pay station with an envelope. Has a porta potty (handicapped size) service gate is locked to keep you from driving farther than the parking lot. The sand was too loose for hybrid bikes. A beach bike or mountain bike would make a quick and easy ride. Unfortunately they had just done a controlled burn so all the dogwood blossoms we came for had been burned, so we turned back. Next time!
