This is another charming state park. Nice and small. Very quiet, very dark at night. Good for star gazing when it isn't cloudy! Very helpful staff. As an older park, the road into the campground is a bit narrow for larger rigs as well as for manuevering into sites, but we managed with our 36' fifth wheel. They had previously had a lot of rain so the ground was saturated and we received more rain. Therefore, there were puddles all around. We were able to change sites to one on a bit higher ground than our reservation, and we were very grateful, as that put us on a concrete pad rather than on the muddy ground. Nice trails and area along the river. Interesting white squirrels running around the campground! The scenic drive has trees marked where there is red-cockcated woodpecker activity and we did hear and see them. Also saw the leucistic deer, known as "Sugar," between the boat launch and campground area. She has a normal head and white body.

We camped for 5 wonderful but wet days. Here's the breakdown spectacular amenities, even though our campsite flood quickly (site1) the water recessed pretty fast,a small bump in our trip. Lots to do,boating, swimming, hiking, watching wildlife or just sit by the river. There is a couple boat ramps and swimming area with play ground , picnic area and fishing docks. Campground was somewhat crowded but is very well kept and patrolled regularly by Rangers and camp host in the name of order and safety (I appreciate that). They offer restroom/shower house which I found spotless everytime I entered. The only draw back which might keep me from returning is the camp hosts. They definitely preformed their duties but where extremely unfriendly and unhelpful. Every question was met with a short answer (if I got a response at all) and a look of disgust. All in all we had a wonderful time as long as we didn't cross paths with them.

We visit the park over Thanksgiving. We met a family who had half the site booked out, something they do every year. They showed us some Southern Hospitality and taught these Aussie what Southern Thanksgiving food is. Thank you! The park........ Beautiful walks. We saw plenty of deer and even WHITE SQUIRRELS. Well maintained walking tracks, even a short scenic drive that we drove around with the kids in the back of the truck. Boat ramp. Jetty for the kids to jump off too! (Located on Dead River). The campground........ Grey dirt/sand campsites makes it hard to keep clean with kids. Elec, water, no Sewer. Sites are NOT for the big RVs or big Trailers. Ours is 18ft and fit fine but anything over 26ft will struggle amongst the beautiful Shady trees. The bathrooms are tired. The campsite is cute. Our favorite site would be site 16 because you can see the water and have direct access from it.

This is our first time driving to FL. Have visited Disney World several times in the past but always flew into Orlando.  We were traveling east along the I-10 and stopped here for a couple of days. Like all the FL state parks we've been to thus far this one is small in terms of CG and facilities. Just 30 sites. CG is heavily wooded which makes it difficult to navigate, as well as get into your site. Some sites have very low hanging branches. We made it into our site but there are some branches just inches from my roof. I had to go so far back in to get my slide past a tree that I needed an extension cord to plug in the power. While there are lots of trees, our site and others are not very private. We're on a curve and the table for the site next to us is literally feet from our table. Bathroom is not clean, they just hose it out. Some toilets out of order. Walls have dirt and hard water stains on them. There are vents but they're all covered with trash bags so they leave the door open all day and run the vent fans 24/7. There are skylights but they are so filthy that no light comes in, so lights are on 24/7. No laundry. There is a dishwashing sink and the people who use it just leave it running the whole time. Bathroom screams 1970's Florida with it's square concrete block construction. Showers have both curtains and doors and get hot. Maintenance is poor, they clearly don't used skilled labor for repairs. There is a little library by restrooms. Park is unsafe, no police presence or enforcement rangers. The day use is about 1/4 mile down from the CG. They have a 'swimming' area complete with a dock and ladders, and a sign at the entrance that says that alligators are present but 'usually' don't attack people!!! There is a small boat ramp area, but there are no toilets there.  There are a couple of trails in the park but the scenery doesn't really change. And there is a very scary town just down the road. We ended up staying in the park for 3 days...

Great park!! Many trails, abundant wildlife, water and friendly people. Saw many deer and my camping spot came with it's own white squirrel. Had camping spot #9 which while fairly close to others, it was surrounded by brush and palmetto bushes making it seem very private. The bathrooms and showers were very clean. Up the road from the camping area is a very nice picnic area with restrooms, boat docks, playground and covered picnic area...very picturesque! One excellent thing at this park is they rent canoes for only $20 per day and there is abundant water to fish in. They also rent kayaks at a low price. The rangers are very friendly (with a special thanks to ranger Marcie who was a big help). Seven miles up the road is a small town called "Sopchoppy" where there is a very good pizza place, an "Tupelo" honey place and a fairly well stocked grocery. Bait is available (watch for signs) and there is a fair sized bait shop about 15 miles from campground in Panacea Florida (also, more places to eat). The gulf is an easy drive (about 10 - 15 miles). This is a very nice place and the only reason I give it 4 rather than 5 stars is, no Wifi...which may not be important to anyone else. Wifi is available however in Crawfordville (Walmart...

My wife and I go camping every two weeks in the winter time. We live in Central Florida full time. I picked this park for it being close to the waters, as i love to fish. I would of given this park Five stars, but they (the State) needs to improve on some things. We camped here to. The main road in the park needs to worked on, as it is old and very dilapidated. The road (if you want to call it that) to the campground, is of dirt/sand with a whole lot of potholes. So wear your seatbelt and hard hat, your going to need it. The campground itself is small. It looks like when they designed the came sites, they didn't make make big campers. In other words the site are very small and kinda hard to get into. I did extensive research on the site we stayed in (#25) 11 months in advance. Because it was the biggest and nicest and easy to back our 21 foot travel trailer in. So all in all this is a nice State Park, but the roads have to be worded on. Oh I almost forgot. The state did put in really nice electrical power boxes/stand in each site. Oh the wife just told me to day the staff is...
