Forestville is a beautiful, wooded state park. We stayed at the horse park for a race over the weekend. The sites are basically standard for this type of location. High ties are provided for the horses, along with a metal fire ring that can be used for grilling at each camp site. Out house style restrooms are located throughout the park. A nice amenity that isn't always found at state park campgrounds is showers. Having showers took this review from a two to a three star rating despite the following paragraph. I experienced a couple of disappointing situations over the weekend. The restrooms were out of toilet paper mid morning on Saturday. I don't know for how long, but I'm sure there were many people inconvenienced by this. Knowing that the entire park is booked I would expect more frequent care of the restrooms or at least leave extra rolls behind. The dispenser held three normal size rolls & when those were gone that was it. Secondly, we normally set up a fence for the horses so they have some freedom to move around versus what they get with the high ties. We had just finished putting the fence out & the park ranger came by to tell us it was too large. It needs to be within 10 feet of the high ties, so I measured & made it smaller, they still had access to a little grass, but not much. That evening we were told it was still too large. Rather than argue that I had measured & it was within the 10' requirement we just took it down. I take this to mean that they really don't want fencing used at all, which although unusual for horse camps at state parks, if that's the rule then I'll follow it, but just state it upfront rather playing games about how small it needs to be. I wish they would have been as attentive to the restroom supplies as they were to the dimensions of...

The tour was good. We were there on Saturday with about 12 people or so. Our tour was at 3:40 PM. The tour was a bit large and the tour guide showed the people that were closer to him what he was talking about. The people in the back (my friend and I were in the back) did not have a chance to see what he was talking about. What he could have done is to have the people in front move on the other side of him and given the chance for the people in the back to show us what he had shown them. He pointed out certain things with his pointer on the walls and ceilings. My friend and I did not get a chance to take a photo when he had used his pointer on special points of interest. Our tour was a bit noisy because of a child that would not be quiet. The parent did not even try to quiet his child down. The tour's should be a bit smaller so we all have a chance to see what the tour guide is showing. Last of all, this is just a suggestion. The tour's should be split between families and adults. This way everyone would enjoy their tour's. I would have given a five star rating, but with the tour guide and the noisy child that is how I rated the tour. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and kind. We enjoyed our tour very much. I liked disinfecting my boots at the very end of the tour. We were at another cave and they did not have a solution of Woolite and water mixture to kill off the White Nose Syndrome for bats. Thank you...

We decided to walk around at the main park for a bit before our cave tour. The cave is not at the main park so you will have to drive for about 7 minutes to get from the main park to the cave. The road has large brown signs that indicate where you need to go so even if you don't have the cave address or your GPS doesn't have signal, you can still find the cave by following the signs.

The park was large and I believe I heard some say there are more than 16 miles of trails. Lots of room for campers and tent camping. We also noticed lots of spots in the parking lots of handicap parking.

The historic town area has the bridge blocked off as they are working on repairs and historical preservation so to see the historical town, you'll need to drive to the other side which takes a while from what I saw. We did not end up going since we didn't have a lot of extra time.

Park staff was very helpful and...

Forestville State Park + Niagara Cave Perfect weekend spent in Minnesota! We love campgrounds that keep the trees around the sites 👏🏼 Trails, biking + the Historic village kept us entertained all weekend. Niagara Cave is a short drive away - make sure you schedule a tour! #stateparkcamping #camping #travel #statepark #traveltrailer #travelwithkids #familyfun #niagaracave #cavetour #forestville #forestvillestatepark #minnesota #minnesotastatepark

The park was clean and beautiful, nice bathroom facilities and well kept sites. The Mystery Cave tour was top notch! We will absolutely return for a more extensive tour in the future. Be advised there is absolutely no cell phone reception within the park across all service providers, a nice benefit as long as you are prepared! On the contrary, I have never before camped in a State Park amongst such rude and inconsiderate people. An incessant symphony of slamming car doors and the thudding of the restroom door was persistent from 6:30 AM; there is absolutely no regard for the quiet hours rule here. I lost count of how many times we heard car alarms set off from evening to morning. We were awake from 2-3 AM listening to a screaming baby. The crowd here just seems to have no regard for others, coming from a mother of 3 under 10 years old, I was appalled.
