Terra Verde Golf Course & Banquet Center — Attraction in Crockery Township

I called into the course a couple days ahead of time to get two tee times for a Tuesday night, since we had a large group. After spending about 5 minutes on the phone and clearly laying out the plan (and having the person from their staff repeat it back to me) I assumed it would be all set. We wanted to split our group of 9 into two tee times - a group of 4 (two scramble teams) and a group of 5 (2 scramble teams with one having a 3rd person). I was told this was no problem at all and that my tee times were booked. Well...

I showed up at the course 20 minutes ahead of time to check in and take some putts, but when I went up to the counter they told me I only called in and requested one tee time for two people total... I tried explaining that was not the case but they wouldn't have it. Luckily the manager at the counter said she would figure it out (even though there should have been nothing to figure out anyway). I went out to putt until they did, and eventually (30 minutes after our tee time was supposed to start) she called me in to explain. She had actually pulled in the person I spoke to on the phone to talk to me, but here is the kicker - the person I talked to on the phone tried claiming I never told her anything except for that I had 2 golfers... I tried once again explaining but then left it at that, because at least they were going to fit us in.

That's when they told us we had to split into 3 tee times (and at this point we were already 45 minutes past when we were supposed to start). They would not allow us to have 5 golfers on one hole, even though it would still only be two scramble teams. Instead they made us split the group of 5 up to play two tee times.... How do they not understand this slows things down twice as much on the course??

Anyway, all that to say I would highly recommend going elsewhere - it appears it is a family owned course and they have a very large ego that you bend to their will. Drive past and play...

Worst experience I’ve ever had! We had 3 golfers with clubs and my brother (new to golf) sharing clubs with the 3 of us.

The Ranger Fran came up to us after a couple holes and rudely told us we were playing too slow & next time everyone needs to have their own set (zero customer service skills) we apologized and said we’ll definitely make sure we do that!

We tried to be courteous and let a group of 3 and then later a group of 2 behind us play through. Apparently she didn’t realize this either time and came up to us a total of 4 times being extremely rude each time.

She was sitting by our tee box, sitting directly behind me one time hitting out of the fairway and drove off mid swing & next to our green multiple times trying to put pressure on us / waiting to come approach us again.

Saying things like “do you guys expect to play 18 holes” when we clearly paid for 18.. Her 4th visit to us she told us we need to either leave or go rent another set of clubs.

When we went into the clubhouse to get a refund on the back 9 and we were met with the same horrible customer service. Didn’t want to hear about how Fran harassed us the whole time we played - just continued to berate us for playing slow and that they have been watching us in the binoculars the whole time.

We did everything we could, picking up a lot of puts and waiting 15+ minutes two separate times to let other groups play through us. Sharing clubs does not slow things down as much as she was...

To be quite honest, this was one of the finest and best kept golf courses I've ever been on. The greens and the grounds are all very nicely managed and provided a very enjoyable golf experience. I played the front 9, but I will definitely be returning to play the back 9 very soon, and I will continue to visit this course going forward. The staff was very professional and very polite, and very enjoyable to speak with. Terra Verde has a nice bar with a comfortable atmosphere and reasonable prices. The golf carts are all very nice and very clean, and are all equipped with one of the better GPS tablet systems I've used.

There is also a driving range for practicing, as well.

Just a note about alcohol use:

One very strict rule. As per Michigan State Law, no alcohol is allowed to be carried in to or consumed on the course property unless it is purchased on property. Small coolers are available for you to use while you are playing the course, so that you can keep your on-site purchased beverages cold while you enjoy your game. These coolers are available at the bar for a $5.00 CASH ONLY deposit, which will be refunded to you when you return the cooler.

Like most people who play the game, I will play around at different courses as I find interest in them here and there, but Terra Verde will be my default go-to in between from here...
