Detoured off the interstate to see the home of the author Robert E. Howard here in Cross plains, TX. I recall reading my first Conan book when I was eight or nine and “borrowing” my Dad’s book off the back of his bed. I knew he had lived, and died in Crossplains, but only recently found out the house had become a museum run by volunteers like Arlene who met us there to let us in. If you plan on visiting: call first as a volunteer has to come meet you.

The house has been restored pretty much to what it was like when Howard lived there. It is amazing he wrote so many stories in his very small bedroom.

Arlene was very nice and knowledgeable on the subject. And I found out there is an annual...

I got there on an off barbarian festival the rains were so heavy they canceled it so there weren't many people there. To be totally honest Howards fiction is by far my favorite and the cross plains museum is my mecca. I absolutely loved my time there the ladies were very helpful and in formative. There is so much stuff they've gathered over the years there it's well done I'll leave it at that. Texas small towns have a lot of different things they do for festivals and this one is unique as well. If your a fan of Howards fiction you know about this already but to any person that likes to read this is a good one. I will go back to try to catch...

I've been wanting to visit the home of Howard, one of my all time favorite authors for many years. My son and I made the trip for Howard Days 2019. The museum was great thanks to the Project Pride volunteers who spent so much time leading tours and answering questions. I was able to make another visit with my oldest daughter in 2021 and my youngest in 2023 for Howard Days. Since I've been 3 times, it's apparent I enjoy the museum and the surrounding area. In 2024 I brought my family to Texas for the eclipse and made sure we visited Cross Plains and the Goward House museum. I was finally able to bring my wife, my dad, and all three kids at...

Brought my son up for Howard Days, as a Fathers day weekend trip, and we had the best time visiting! The foundation caring for Robert E. Howards museum were all unique in the way they explored hisnlife and works! Each room had an individual member who covered the artifacts, full of rich history and the dedication to preserving Howard's house shows! Together we learned about so many new things he did in his works, and his life stretched, even from the small, wonderful town of Cross Plains. If you have an inkling of interest in learning more about Howard, his works, and the impact he had on the world, this is a mandatory experience!
