Detoured off the interstate to see the home of the author Robert E. Howard here in Cross plains, TX. I recall reading my first Conan book when I was eight or nine and “borrowing” my Dad’s book off the back of his bed. I knew he had lived, and died in Crossplains, but only recently found out the house had become a museum run by volunteers like Arlene who met us there to let us in.    Read moreI got there on an off barbarian festival the rains were so heavy they canceled it so there weren't many people there. To be totally honest Howards fiction is by far my favorite and the cross plains museum is my mecca. I absolutely loved my time there the ladies were very helpful and in formative. There is so much stuff they've gathered over the years there it's well done I'll leave it at that. The museum was great thanks to the Project Pride volunteers who spent so much time leading tours and answering questions. I was able to make another visit with my oldest daughter in 2021 and my youngest in 2023 for Howard Days. Since I've been 3 times, it's apparent I enjoy the museum and the surrounding area. In 2024 I brought my family to Texas for the eclipse and made sure we visited Cross Plains and the Goward House museum. I was finally able to bring my wife, my dad, and all three kids at...
