Montana's Native American culture comes to life every August for the Crow Fair. It is a celebration of the Crow Nation, complete with rodeo, the Indian relays and parades. My wife and I strolled among the 1200 teepees that were set up for the fair. It certainly lived up to the moniker of "teepee capital of the world." I struck up a conversation with a young Crow man and he welcomed me inside his teepee. His young wife had just finished nursing their infant son. I was honored to be invited. This was not my first time in a teepee, having slept in one when I lived on the Flathead Reservation. However, to sit with this young family and stair through open top flap into a glorious blue sky made for a special Montana memory. The majority of Natives are from the Crow Nation, dressed in traditional wear with eagle feathers, war bonnets, old time saddles and exquisite beadwork.
