I've been going to Bewabic State Park since I was a little kid. I grew up in Crystal Falls and we used to go to Bewabic for last day of school picnics. As an adult, I visit the park whenever I am in the area. This weekend was the first time I've camped there. What a nice campground! The sites are spaced far enough apart that you aren't on top of your neighbors. There are two full shower/bathrooms that are very nice, along with vault toilets here and there. There are 3 separate camping areas (Loops A, B, and C). Most, if not all, have electrical hook ups. Great for both tents and campers. There is a very large day-use area and there is even an "island" to explore with trails. There is a large hiking trail system throughout the park. Mostly hardwood forests. The mosquitos aren't too bad in August. There are a few spots of poison ivy, so make sure to familiarize yourself with what the plant looks like. The ranger station has bagged ice for sale and they also sell firewood. Bewabic does not have very good cell service because it is located in a valley. Located about 10 minutes west of Crystal Falls on US 2. Close to other lakes and rivers, not to mention a vast system of snowmobile...
Read moreOne of my favorite MI State Parks so far!! Beautiful surroundings, well maintained grounds. Quiet during the week, busy on the weekends, but still peaceful!! We camped in B/South Loop, and after touring the grounds -- I would say it is my favorite loop. Campsite #48 is a great site!! Small trek to vault toilet, and a few minutes of a walk to modern facilities. Saw lots of wildlife throughout the grounds -- bald eagle, fox, deer, birds, loons -- bring your binoculars. Good fishing -- we had kayaks and my husband caught a few 14-15 in bass. Heard others caught smaller blue gill, perch, and also northerns. Park staff was wonderful!!! We, along with some other campers had a run in with yellow jackets -- attacked and stung while hiking. DNR made personal visits to out sites and assured us that they took care of the nest. Such a beautiful, peaceful place!!! So sad it's a 9 hr drive from us, but well worth the trip!!!
P.s. the only flaw I found was the amount of Canadian Geese and the poop on the beach! Staff combed the beach once during our stay, but really could use it mulitple times a week. But with some flexibility, and an easy goi g attitude, we still...
Read moreWe visited Bewabic in August, on a humid day, and it was really nice and shady in the trees. The park is very hilly, so tough on little kids with bikes, but with some work, most can navigate it. The camping lots are HUGE even by UP standards. Lots on the outside of the circles are very deep and they were smart enough to put electrical near the road in the pull through spots for longer trailers. The park was built by the CCC in the 1930s and some structures still remain. There were two very clean bath houses, each with 4 showers and plenty of rest rooms. The only reason we didn't give it a 5 star is that the beach area just has so much goose excrement you had a hard time walking, let alone letting kids swim on the beach. If they can get those geese to move farther down, this would be one of my favorite spots in the UP (yes, even compared to Brimley and...
