In my mind I surf. In reality, I suck. The concept behind surfing is deceiving simple:
The practice is another story. Surfing is humbling. I tried once in Hawaii and got crushed physically and emotionally. The physical part was a quick recovery... (sigh)
When I went out with Jostin ("Jost") from Frijoles Locos, the first thing I did was introduce myself to the ocean (no doubt, she remembered me!) and make myself humble before her. Jostin may have wondered "what the hell is this gringa doing? and does she really think shes pulling off that Youth-sized rashguard" and smiled handsomely. Perhaps with a dash of pity.
Me, my husband and his friend from college. We listened to Jostin on the sand as he explained the order of moves: turn / pull yourself up / use your non.....Im boring you with this description, arent I? THE POINT IS .......I SURFED!!!!! Thats right, friends. Kim is a SURFER NOW. Why yes, on my very first try. The wave couldn't have been higher than 2 feet, but damnit, I surfed like wave like Betthany Hamilton!
RUN, DONT WALK....
Read moreVery nice beach to snorkel at, the coral reefs and sea life was an awesome site to see for myself. I will come back to this beach for sure again. Next time I'll come on my stay here at Culebra. Came here with East Island Excursion tour and this was the highlight of the day to snorkel and see some reef up close, as for the rest for the day was only ok at best. East Island Excursion is over rated in my opinion because It was only an ok tour for me but the excursion time is to short for the price we paid. 45 minutes to snorkel, quick get on the boat and eat before everyone else eats everything up, about an hour in Feminco Beach. We spent more time travel to and from these location, then we did to enjoy it. Next time around, I won't be using East Island Excursion again,...

It's a little more low-key, but the water was calm and clear (we went at the beginning of October) and we were able to bring our own snorkel equipment instead of booking a tour. I had never snorkeled before but I felt very safe, and it was so non-touristy that I felt comfortable leaving my keys and phone on the beach. You can literally just walk out a few feet with your snorkel and we saw tons of sea turtles, plus interesting fish and a nurse shark. If you are looking for other easy beginner snorkels, we also liked...
