Sachs bridge is in Adams County, located a few miles south of Gettysburg Battlefield. Seems General Lee’s Confederates withdrew from the 3 day battle in July , 1863 to retreat back to Virginia. Locals captured 3 Confederate Soldiers, thought them to be spies, or deserters they were hanged from the covered bridge. Stories of their ghosts who haunt the Sachs Bridge, continue today.

We went here on a guided Ghost hunt on our first trip to Gettysburg. It was both interesting and sad to hear of the story behind the bridge and the land it's on. We didn't see any ghosts but we did get some responses on a few devices that we were allowed to use.

The bridge that was the scariest was the Eisenhower Bridge not too far from the Sachs Bridge. The Eisenhower Bridge has a very dark presence of some kind there and I wouldn't visit that place on my own in the dark. Our Ghost Hunt guide showed us pictures of 2 totally black dark figures and something that didn't look human reaching over the top hand rail of the bridge that resembled very long fingers, hands and arms and had a couple of stories; one of which were of some friends that went there in their vehicle and the vehicle started to shake violently and when returning home, there was a hand print on a window that had no finger prints on it. During the Eisenhower Bridge visit, he set up REM pods and one of them did go off that he placed on a trail off of the bridge and you could definitely tell that the air was heavy and...

We came here on a Friday morning, and other than a few people who seemed to be doing a self-guided tour, we had the place to ourselves. While there seemed to be a fair amount of parking on either side of the bridge, we approached it from the eastern side, coming from Route 15, and were treated to parts of the Battlefield. The bridge is in pristine condition, and unlike a lot of other covered bridges in Pennsylvania, there was access to the creek at every angle. There a little dam on the eastern side of the bridge, and because of the low water levels, made for a fun spot for some photos. Again, visiting there on an early Friday morning made it for a pleasant stop. This is not a drive through bridge.

A picturesque, well-maintained, no longer in service, covered bridge. This crosses the Marsh Creek, very close to the Gettysburg National Military Park. There is a small dam a few hundred yards beyond. A small parking area, and roadside parking allowed. Fishing from banks - not the greatest access, but it exists - bring shears (but watch out for poison ivy... ask me how I know 😬). I've seen kayaking, but not sure about boating regulations - it's a small waterway. A pleasant break from visiting Battlefields all day.
