Cupertino | The Scenic and Easy PG&E Trail for Hiking

Awesome hike. I live close so have been going there for decades! I usually do the Stephen Abbors trail (PGE) - it would be very hard hike for beginners, medium to hard folks who regularly hike. Parking will be difficult so if you are an early hiker then be there by 6:30 in winter months or even earlier for summer months. Otherwise would consider 8:00 but then in summer months it will become quite hot during the hike. Start from the “bridge”, stay left at the fork go up about 0.5 miles and you get 3-way fork - stay on the leftmost trail and then you have about 1.5 miles of hills followed by about 0.5 miles of downhill- enjoy it as you will soon need all your strength! A little further you get a fork - stay left. After which you have one of the hardest hills, almost 3/4 mile long - you end this section at a vista point and pole number 7 is next to it. You continue another about 1.5-2 miles to the top with about 5 hill climbs but you also get a break with some downhills and flat sections. Fantastic views at the top and TAKE WATER!!!

This is a beautiful trail in Cupertino. There is a lot of parking, but you need to get here before 7 am to get parking closer to the trailhead. The trail has a lot of shade and is a rolling elevation with ups and downs. People use this trail for relaxing hike out for endurance training for long distance running. We did the upper meadow trail loop which comes to around 8 miles round trip. We saw a lot of wild flowers and the towering PG&E towers holding the power lines that carry electricity. We saw a lot of variety of wildflowers and lots of butterflies as well. It has lots of panoramic views as well.

While not strongly enforced the (near-mandatory) guidance on covid protocol is seeing a lot more compliance including one-way trails. The charm and variety of the numerous trails are ever-present. A sneak-peek through the openings indicates a manmade lake in the making near the parking lot with a beautiful meandering walkway trail built around it: the lake is expected to get filled by the rain runoff - whenever it happens 😌; that this lake's eastern side abuts a cemetery is a sobering...
