Even though it has almost 10 years since I visited the Olson House, this has to be one of my most memorable places. As an art teacher I came in with background knowledge of Andrew Wyeth and being here in this house with its wealth of history was SO moving. I can only hope that someone still conducts a tour with the same background knowledge as the one I experienced. Standing and looking at the actual blue door, the subject of the painting in memory of Christina Olson while I read the story of the painting brought me to tears.    Read moreThis is our second visit to the Olson House. We were in Maine about four years ago, and we stopped by then and did the tour. Unfortunately, the house is closed for renovations, but there are interpretive signs telling you about the house and the lay of the land. Also, there is now a parking lot behind the house. It is still worth a visit despite the place being closed.

It loses one star because of the dreadful conditions of the road for the last 30 minutes of the drive there. Afterwards, visit the art museum in nearby Rockland.
