We flew to South Dakota from Texas for a quick trip to do the Wild Cave Challenge Tour a 2nd time at Jewel Cave- which was a fun day. But, it was THIS hidden gem that we kept talking about! We squeezed into our tight schedule, The Little Mermaid Musical, at the Black Hills Playhouse, and we're blown away by the talented cast, beautiful voices, unbelievable set, and gorgeous costumes. The adorable theater is in the Black Hills Forest and has stadium style seating. The seats were a bit tight for my husband's long legs since he's so tall, but a side roomy seat was found for him while I kept my great center seat. We both LOVED the experience! Five stars!! Bravo!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ P.S. Side note. On our 1st trip to South Dakota, we stayed in Keystone near Mount Rushmore. Good for families. On this trip, we stayed in Custer and felt it was less touristy, with more of a "locals" feel. Custer is a better fit for us with challenging hiking trails and natural areas. Use caution and respect horned goats, buffalo, and other wildlife if hiking/rock climbing. It's also just a short drive into Wyoming if you want to briefly see another state. New Castle is a cute town there. We love South...
Read moreWe attended the "children's night" of Sherwood and were very disappointed. We had specifically called when booking our ticket and told them that we were very conservative and wanted to know if there was anything in the play that we should know about before bringing our children. We were assured, by the salesperson, who had just seen the show, that there was nothing they could even think of that would be of note. IT IS NOT KID FRIENDLY. In fact there wasn't much in the play at all that was good. It was mostly paying too much money to have to cover our children's eyes. The play has swearing, sexual foreplay, sexual jokes, a "death" character, and mostly consisted of the actors describing in detail how to harm, impale, and kill others. DON'T GO. After calling the playhouse TWICE before someone called us back, I was told there was nothing they would do. We have attended plays every year at the Black Hills Playhouse and will not...
Read moreAttended a presentation of "Something Rotten," last night. Excellent and professional cast, presentation and of course, the playhouse itself was worth the drive. Staff and Linda Anderson make it a wonderful and organized experience. Previous to the presentation, they also sent out an email notifying us of construction on the route we would have taken and gave us an alternative route. I was very appreciative of this. Really enjoyed our time last night. A bonus was the beautiful full moon on...
