Seriously, avoid if you can. If you are trying to avoid blood mountain, don’t. I had injured myself and was pretty worn out by the time I finished Freeman Trail. As a first time visitor to the AT I had no idea if I was still on the path for the first hour since I never saw the blue blazes posted on the trees. The path is barely recognizable and I can’t tell you how much anxiety I went through thinking I went off trail.

Also, my buddy was waiting a good 2 hours for me as I had to go around the base of the mountain while he went up and over. It’s still a hard path with less vertical elevation. No water. Be sure you have...

Worst trail, i’ve ever hiked. My crew and I decided to hike the freeman trail around the base of blood mountain, because there were heavy thunderstorms on the mountain. The trail was poorly maintained, narrow and extremely difficult to hike with a forty pound overnight pack on my back. Ran into many day-hikers who were confused and thought the trail led to the summit of blood mountain. Would not recommend, stick to the...

Had a great time hiking the trails and camping. Would recommend checking the time of sundown before you set out to hike the trail, as they may take around 2 or more hours...
