Loved this little hike! The initial sign is a tad deceiving as it looks like it's 1 mile to the observation deck and 11 miles to the falls. We were not the only ones to fall for this! The teeny holes in the sign are easily overlooked but it's actually .1 and 1.1 miles - dohh!! Anyhoo, the path is quite steep, rough in places, and involves quite a few steps here and there - not what I would consider to be stroller friendly but did see a couple on our hike. But it is suitable for any age that is fit and healthy, the ascent back up to the parking area really gets your blood pumping, so would strongly advise having many thin layers that you can peel off as needed rather than one thick layer that keeps you toasty - you are gonna be sweating!! You constantly hear the water flowing so your ears are always getting a tease of what your eyes eventually see - and it looks awseome!! Really cool to see the power of the water and how it shaped and carved the rocks over millenia. The water is crystal clear and could imagine the calmer sections would be really inviting at warmer times of the year. By the time we got back to the car ($4 parking btw), it took us about 1.5 hours or thereabouts. There is restrooms but these are the rustic type without running water so if you are a picky pee-er, best go before or hold it til you are not in the...
Read moreFirstly, this is more of a tourist spot than an actual real hike hike in my opinion. And I don't mean that in a negative way. It's very well done, and the waterfalls at the end are beautiful. There's twin waterfalls here. Firstly, the trail head is Duke's Creek Falls Trailhead. It's paved a good bit, till you get to a series of boardwalks and stairs. After that the trail is wide gravel. Once you get on the switch-back it's dirt trail all the way down hill to the falls. When you get to the end of the 1.1 mile trail you come to a really well done viewing platform area to both falls. Like most Georgia state parks, this is very well maintained. There was a heavy rain the night before which made some trees fall down and they did have one of the observation decks going to Dukes Creek falls closed. Overall a...
Read moreThis is an easy hike for beginners. The trail begins paved and then alternates between wooden bridges and gravel trail for most of it. Aside from some short sections of stairs the path is mainly gentle switch backs for the 1.1 miles to the falls. There is also some scenic parts where you can see other smaller and mostly un-accessable falls as seen in the attached pictures. This is a great spot for quick day hikes with kids and dogs but dont expect to be the only one hiking it. There is also a bathroom, picnic tables, and trash cans at the trail head. Parking is 4$ at the drop box...
