Winter waterfall chasing ☃️ Come with me to explore DeSoto Falls. ❄️ 2.2 miles round trip ❄️ Dog friendly ❄️ 2 waterfalls on the hike. One on the 3/4 mile out and back and a 1/4 mile out and back ❄️ Part of the Chattahoochee National Forest ❄️ Camping sites also available at this park ❄️ It gets its name from a legend that Spanish Explorer Hernando de Soto and his men were exploring the area for gold in the 1500s and a piece of their armor was found near the falls ❄️ Normally a favorite summer hike to see the rhododendron in bloom but equally stunning with the half frozen falls during winter #wandernorthga #northgeorgia #dahlonega #georgiawaterfalls #desotofalls

The lower falls are not as dramatic as the Upper Falls. If you have to choose between the upper and lower Falls, I would choose the upper falls. The trail says 1/4 mile, but it seems longer than that and is mostly uphill via stairs and fairly steep at points. There is an observation deck to enjoy the view and the sounds of the falling water.

Went on a field trip with my Geology Class and had a great time! This waterfall is a great example of how the watertable works, flowing from the mountains to sea level. Beautiful and very easy hike, great for the kids!

A small, but beautiful waterfall located just 1/4 mile south of the USFS Desoto Falls Campground on Hwy. 60 north of Cleveland GA. To access, cross the footbridge over Frogtown Creek and turn left. The Upper Desoto Falls are 3/4 mile north, but the trail is temporarily closed due to trees blown down by...

Parking costs $5 but getting service for the app to download is non-existent. Bathrooms disgusting! .25 mile uphill hike to lower falls and .75 moderate hike to upper falls. Both are beautiful and the trail...
