We discovered this gem last year and have been there twice in 2016 and twice in 2017 so far. The Bear Creek Trail head provides access to a running/jogging trail that is suitable for ATVs and Motorcycles. MTBs are not advised unless you have legs and buns of steel! The next park is a few miles away and the trail opens up to logging roads which are a blast to ride on, specifically the 15% and higher grades that add to the excitement.
The children's park is large enough for soccer, or a single basket disc golf tournament. It's also very centrally located from all areas so kids can walk or ride there.
This is our 2nd favorite lake in AR! The shape of the narrows makes for killer wakes and jet ski wakejumping! Also, the Island on the sountern part of the lake is sandy, shady and has a nice beach for picnicking and swimming. The boat ramp is fairly long, so my 26' 4-jet ski trailer is easy to load/unload. It's also not crowded, so there's no pressure to load/unload in a timely manner.
The sites are "mostly" level, but you should bring a few 2x6" boards to pre-level your trailer before you disconnect from your tow vehicle. The breakers actually hold 30 and 50 amps, where some crappy parks have ancient breakers that will pop when your microwave is cooking while A/C is on.
The bathhouses are centrally located, clean and cool, with ample room and hot water. My only complaint would be the dump station. While not horrible, I hate the long lines that can build up there with so many old folks that take their time dumping their loads.
We have one more trip planned for 2017, solely for the Bear Creek experience on our ATVs and motorcycles. I'm sure we'll terrorize the lake with the...
Read moreWent in the fall, so keep in mind that outside of the lake and fishing, there are minimal activities available...unless you have a dirt bike and want to hit the trail. There is a short nature trail near the office that is about a 15-30 min hike, mostly flat and not very heavily trafficked. Great for small children. I would not recommend staying in camp area A with an RV. The turnaround near the water is very cramped, making maneuvering a chore if you have an RV approaching 25ft-30ft. The pad sites are not level, and most of the fire rings are on a very steep incline (towards shore), making sitting in a camp chair without falling over, almost impossible and very unenjoyable. Between two families, we had 8 kids, and there was a lot of sliding and falling down due to the steep slope on either side of the RV pads. Camp area E has all of the nice RV pads with better views and usable fire rings...in some cases, with wood, multi level decks. I did not get a good look at camp area B and cannot speak to its quality. There is a playground in the middle of the park that is well maintained and the kids did enjoy it. Crater of Diamonds State Park is about 30 minutes down the road, and worth a visit. Pros: Clean, well maintained park. Lake activities Fishing Nice Playground Bear Creek Motorcycle Trail (16 miles)
Cons: Lack of activities outside of fishing and boating. Hiking trail is short and uneventful and could have been constructed more along the lake shore for better views. Steep slopes at campsite A pad sites and nearly unusable fire rings due to lack of level. Electric and water, hookups but no sewer hookups. Dump...
Read moreWe rented the use of the air conditioned pavilion for our family reunion. It was nice and clean. Had plenty of parking space. In close proximity to a basketball court and playground area. There were picnic tables outside, plenty of tables and chairs inside. The bathrooms were kept stocked and clean and air conditioned. We used the pavilion for 2 days and park staff made sure to empty the trash receptacles outside the facility daily. It was extremely hot towards the end of June but the building stayed cool and was the perfect size to accommodate our large group. Walking distance to the boat docks and we enjoyed our weekend stay. Some of us booked campsites, others area motels. Only complaint I could muster would be the amount of electrical outlets available for our potluck style meals. We had to bring in several surge protectors to make the multitude of crock pots, hot plates, etc. work for us and at breakfast when we added coffee pots, toasters and waffle irons in the mix, we kept overloading them. Probably due to the overwhelming amount of food we were attempting to offer at our event. That situation however is hardly worth mentioning, however if we hadn't planned ahead to bring those 6-ways, we would have been unable to heat up all the food we had planned. There were grills located just outside the pavilion and a water source as well. I'd say it 99% perfectly fit our family's needs. Beautiful weather and the park was very nice. I even picked up a WiFi signal from the...
