On our first visit to Johan we were greeted by Max and Kyle with warm hospitality, knowledge of the wine and of the land, but it was their authentic excitement and joy for the wines that told us right away: this place is different.
In the land of top notch wine, it's hard to stand out. That's why I was surprised by the emotions I felt after the first sip. It wasn't just my taste buds, but my soul that was happy. The love and care that went into making the wine was very evident, in a way that I haven't experienced.
Even though we live in Eugene, my wife and I decided on the spot to sign up for the wine club. The wine is extraordinary. The atmosphere is laid back and friendly and unpretentious - everyone there is focused on making wine and making sure everyone has a good time
Also, the wood fired pizzas they do for special events have the impossible task of matching the quality of the wine, and they do. Everything I've said about the wine goes for the pizza as well. Amazing. I didn't know pizza crust could taste that good. Looking forward to enjoying many more of those this...
Read moreMy partner and I had a WONDERFUL visit to Johan! I mean, first of all, who doesn't love a scenic drive through an oak savannah to visit with the lovely Hannah? Being midweek during late harvest season, the vibe was definitely chill and the scenery was delightful. (Even Morgan stepped away from harvest duties to chat with us. Thanks, Morgan!) But you want to know about the wines, right? Well, they are lovely and refreshingly different from what you mostly find in the valley. (Hello, Blaufränkisch!) We appreciated how the wines naturally reflect the terroir of the Van Duzer -- bright, structured and fresh. We were especially fond of the 2020 Pinot Noir, which we found to be spicy and with a good core of fruit. But above the wines and scenery, Miss Hannah brought the whole experience together so beautifully, telling us all about the farming, the winemaking, the AVA, and helping paint the broader picture of Johan. We'll most certainly...
Read moreIf you ask me, Johan Vineyards has some of the best wine in the valley! It is 100% biodynamic, and estate grown, and they have some really creative varietals. In fact, lots of wineries in the area use their grapes b/c the Van Duzer Corridor gets a lot of wind and produces incredible flavor!
All their wine is small batch and made with a lot of care. The service is super personable, and the views are dreamy. If you’re looking for a stuffy, grandiose tasting room, with a large-scale restaurant operation, where you have to dress up to fit in, this isn’t it. If you want a relaxing homey environment with a bit of backyard magic, come here. They have sheep and chickens roaming the pasture and their small-batch pizza operation uses a sourdough cultured from their wine and home-grown farm veggies! Plus, Anna’s playlists—as thoughtful as her table service—always set the...
