Located near loop 12 and hwy 114, this nature park is located off California Crossing which is probably the worst road in Dallas county. After a half mile down the road, which connects 114 to Northwest Highway, this park is a quiet piece of nature in a busy area of town. The trails appear to be still under construction, as after following the "Kathy's loop trail" for about 1/2 mile, the trail just ended right near the Trinity. Retracing our steps, we returned to the fork and continued back to the main path. The trail is dirt, flat and even with poison ivy encroaching on the sides. Good for biking and we did encounter cyclers while hiking. Squirrels and snakes are in abundance. We photographed a rough green snake in a tree while there. The parking is decent. There are no restroom facilities or handicap parking. The trails are moderately wide and adequate for those with mobility issues and some wheelchairs could traverse this path if it is not muddy. Plenty of shade and old forest arching overhead. Most of the trail we walked was shaded. Nice views of the trinity are available as well. Some areas off the trail lead to the waters' edge. There is not a lot of signage or directions inside the park. I'd recommend carrying a trail map or app that tracks your path to help you determine which way to go once in the trails. Total distance hiked...2.03miles.

A very secluded place with amazing views of wildlife, the trails are peaceful and fishing is good all time of the year. Quick update: October 20, 2020 - The park has been trashed all over, and the trails are now harder to walk through, however I still do love the scenery.

If you like hiking and enjoying nature, it's okay,be aware of your surroundings, there are people that go there for the wrong reasons, seems to be a place that attracts gay males, but for wrong reasons, for example, this am,two people came in a car ,whatever they did the guy driving got out and his pants fell down, another guy I asked for a cigarette, he didn't have any pants on,if going, have a sense of humor, personally, the only person I ever met worth getting to know would have been the one that went by...

FOR A VISIT IN 2020

Went for some nature exploration and photography. I went a little ways to the riverbank and noticed shotgun shells. Probably some duck hunters, not that big of a deal. I realized at that point that I did not have my memory card in my camera, so I frustratingly left. But then on my way out, I noticed a pile of spent handgun shells by the picnic tables at the trailhead. Did not feel safe there and will not...
