Beautiful Spring day for a walk at Francis Perkins National Monument. Ample parking off the River Road in Newcastle. The trail head starts behind the barn. Eventually forks off to the North or South trail. The North trail has old foundations while the south trail meanders through established mostly deciduous forest. Eventually both trails open into a large field. Once through the field the trail narrows to the river. Great views of oyster growing rafts. A small stream to the south of the trail. Great for bird viewing. Plenty of large rocks to sit by the river but no chairs or tables. The house was not open when I visited. See website...
Read moreNot worth the trip! I would give them zero stars if I could! After a 1 1/2 hour trip from Kennebunk I found the center closed! It is suppose to be open from 10am to 2pm. I arrived there at 12:30 pm and the place was closed! They also have no directional signs to the homestead. I asked a local and he says the place is never open.
