Such a beautiful place to visit. Great to just see the 2 museums, or lighthouse but even better to have a picnic. We stopped down the road for some chili dogs, sat at one of the many picnic tables to have ouch, before wandering around taking pictures.
There were lots of people but certainly wasn't over crowded. Close parking, may be an issue since it fills up fast, but there are multiple lots. Certainly worth checking out.
The buildings are accessible, the main home has a lift. Without the lift, there are a few stairs getting up the porch. Leaving is better, they're spread out. Even though stairs are difficult, I did just fine.
While the buildings are free, to go up the lighthouse has a fee. I believe it was a $3 donation per person. If you're afraid of heights, don't attempt it. They're spiral metal stairs, and you can see down. Typical fir other lighthouses built in that time period around the great lakes. We did ask if we could just go in, the girl from the Ohio DNR said sure, took us in to snap pics, even explained some of the things in there. She was great! It was really warm in there, stay hydrated.
One great thing about this location, you can see Cedar Point, and Kelly Island as well....

Read moreI love coming here... but I seem to make it here when the lighthouse is closed! This time I was in luck! Even if you stop by and the museum is closed, it is still a great place to visit. You can walk around the base of the lighthouse and watch the waves crash on the shore. You can even let you feet feel the cool Lake Erie water. The views are amazing, especially the view of Cedar Point. But I won't lie! If you stop by during the museum hours AND when the lighthouse is open for tours.... you will catch a view of the area that can't be beat! There are 77 steps to the top and you can walk around the walkway getting a 360 degree view! If you have binoculars, bring them! The view of the nearby islands is stunning! There is a lot to learn about the lighthouse and the men and women who made sure the light stayed burning. If the museum o is closed, there are several informational markers to provide additional details. Also on the grounds is a replica of a US Life Saving Station and restrooms in a...
