This is a great beach to bring your family. It has 4 breaker walls made of stones to keep the sand in place and prevent big waves. This also allows the water to go down super duper gradually. You can walk out to most of the breaker walls. Because of that, I would say it's one of the safer places to bring younger kids on Lake Erie. Some review said there were life guards. There are not anymore. They haven't been there in years. So you do need to watch your kids/ friends closely.
This beach does get raked periodically to be cleaned, but yes... fish live in it and they die and wash up, but it's a lake, not a pool! If you don't want to see a dead fish, don't go to any beach on the great lakes. Every beach on the great lakes has them. I am not a big fan of swimming in any of the lakes because they can have sea weed and just be dirty. This is why I like this beach. I can walk out in it 100 feet and it just come up to my knees most visits. When it has sea weed it tends to stick together and have areas you can walk without getting into it. (This does depend a lot on the tide, but almost every year I visit this is the case).
There are bathrooms here and showers in them and also outside to wash off or wash your feet.
There is a state park attached where you can camp and many campers walk here from their site. There is also a small play...
Read moreA very well maintained public beach. As it is in an Ohio state park, it is free. The sandy beach had been raked and was relatively clean. This is a natural sand beach and the water depth is relatively shallow. My son could walk all the way to the break wall without going over his head! However, there are derp areas. The water between the break walls is deeper. But it was nice that the kids can really wander far into the water and still stand up. There are plenty of trees nearby, so if you wanted to sit in the shade and avoid the sun you can. This section of the park is not open to dogs, but there were plenty who did not pay attention. There is another area of the park on the opposite side that is open to dogs that has beach access. The beach has a restroom and showers that are located outside to get the sand off. If you wanted to wander beyond the beach, a trail will take you to the harbor entrance where you can walk along a path out to the harbor entrance to get a fantastic view...
Read moreIt's a crowded beach but you can visit the rocky part of the shore. You'll find fossils like these ones embedded on the rocks (the first one with crystalized lines can be a Trilobite, I think). It's just magical. That area is full of a fresh breeze and while it doesn't have any place to soak your feet, you can sit and admire the lake, read a book or get a sun bath. If you are generous and want to pay back to nature, pick the litter than is dragged by storms to the shore or left behind by others. Please, left the beach better than...
