Anglers Park is a nice park to walk at in Danville. You meet a lot of nice people here. They will wave and say hello as they pass on their bicycles. Parents in this area need to do a much better job supervising their children! On my past 3 visits, I have seen multiple children under the age of 10 (some look as young as 4 or 5) walking around the park alone with no adults anywhere in sight. On my most recent visit about a week ago, I had a little girl come up to me and ask me to help her find her mom! I called the girls mom on my cell and found her mom had apparently gone to pick up her boyfriend and left the girl in the park completely unattended! The girl was a tad shaken up because she told me she saw her mothers car driving away, and she was wondering why she was left at the park. It was nearly 45 minutes before her mom returned to the park. When the mother saw me, she thanked me and told me, “She’s a Brownie Girl Scout; she’s ok; she knows exactly what to do.” As if her being a Brownie Girl Scout made it ok to leave her alone in a gigantic park! I was like, are you joking with me? I looked at the woman in disbelief and I reminded her of all the dangers out there. She’s seriously lucky I did not call the authorities to report her for child abuse. I definitely wasn’t expecting to have to help a defenseless 7-year-old child while exercising here. Please parents. Read moreI don't want to leave a bad review of the park because, as a whole, it's pretty nice. There are good shelters and a great greenway from what I saw. However, the mountain bike trails were a little disappointing.
I was in the area and saw that there was a black diamond trail and a skills area, so I made the trip to check it out. The black diamond was way overrated. It needs to be downgraded to a blue for sure. There were no unavoidable obstacles, and the ones I ride were not challenging.
The skills area was more interesting, but has clearly been nerfed by the maintainers. All of the really interesting features have been ripped up. Also, "crooked stick" had recently been worked on, but whoever did the work didn't account for the dry soil. Everything was loose and sandy; ready for the next rainstorm to wash it all away. Why you would choose to dig up the trail surface when it had been so dry is a mystery to me.
Would I ride here again? Sure. I wouldn't make a trip out...
Read moreThis park, located on the spectacular Dan Daniels Riverwalk Trail, is a great spot for family fun. There's a large shelter with picnic tables, a grassy soccer field, a boat launch, a paved walking/biking trail is fantastic for anyone who isn't up to terrain with hills. There are numerous benches and picnic tables stationed along the river side of the field if you need to take a break or want a shady spot beside the river for a picnic. This is a great place to take a walk with kids in a stroller or someone restricted to a wheelchair because it's so level. It's also a good trail to allow children to develop bike skills. This level trail, that runs around the soccer field, connects to a slightly more challenging paved trail as well as very challenging, unpaved mountain biking/hiking trails. There are well maintained public restrooms and a bike washing station with various tools available for repairs. It's one of our favorite locations...
