Let me start off by saying that we love hiking a lot of the trails on Mount Diablo. Rocky City was always on our list to hike but for some reason we just never got around to doing it until just recently.
Mount Diablo has spectacular views of the Bay Area and its surrounding areas but apparently if the weather is really good and there are clear skies, you are able to get a glimpse of Half Dome.
Anyways....Rock City was an adventure to hike because some parts of the trails were closed off so we had to be creative lol. We literally had to rock climb on some areas but it was fun for me because I love adventure! There were a few trees that were down and very muddy throughout the trail. The views are spectacular once you reach the top of the rocks. It's absolutely breathtaking.
We use AllTrails which is an awesome app. We're able to download the map and use it while offline in the area where we are hiking. That helps a lot in situations like this one.
Make sure to always bring water especially during the warmer/hotter days. I recommend this trail if you...
Read moreWe did a small hike. I'm 7 months pregnant and I have a 3 year old. Thankfully I had the All Trails app because the trail they listed was not well tended. There was a ton of poison oak when you get into the lower shaded areas and the path is really narrow. Parts of the path we had to go through we had to climb straight up rocks so that was interesting. Lots of graffiti unfortunately on the rocks with easier access. If you explore more there are some with less. Views were spectacular and the drive up was sublime. $10 for a day pass. Not many restrooms so find one before you go on your hike. Park was well kept. Restrooms surprisingly had all the amenities. Took us 2 hours to get through the 0.8 mile hike with lots of detours and a snack break....

Wearing shorts didn’t prevent skinned knees due to the challenging climb to the nesting caves that are high up and slide down facing your knees to the rock wall. Must wear shoes with non slip or provide good traction & grip. Lots of uneven rocky trails and narrow passages around wind caves if you’re trying to venture further out to other trails near by. There were some trails marks or indicators but we found it rather challenging to find our way to the Sentinel Rock from Wind Caves. It’s all very similar passages and rock formations that it would be hard to draw a map showing the clear sights to orient where you’re...
