We had already stayed last year while Moto camping over at Mount magazine but it was full so we chose to stay here this time. Upon arrival we were very disappointed that it is basically a mountaintop subdivision community. That would be the only downfall so please don't think I'm trashing it. As a motorcyclist the road going up to it is a 10 out of 10 when it comes to putting a thrill smile on your face. That is if you like those turns that come back and meet yourself again.
The staff that we met those 4 days was fantastic. The campground is small and really geared toward children but we had a good night sleep every night in a clean bathhouse to use. The view from the bath house and the camp spots on that side are amazing. Weather turned very cold and stormy but thankfully to God it missed us every time. We were there just to cook breakfast Go ride all day and then come back and cook supper and go to sleep. Fortunately it was not very busy due to the bad weather so there was no problem with the tiny bathhouse. It has one shower two toilets one urinal and one sink on the men's side. Keep that in mind if it's a busy weekend.
it looked like bicycle trails where everywhere so if that's your thing this may be a great destination.
I would recommend this for families that have kids that play on playground equipment as it's right in the center of the campground and very nice well kept equipment.
If you're in the area it definitely would be worth a trip up and if we had to stay in that area again I know we probably would but for our type Moto camping next time we will get something more remote.
Oh yeah the other good news is it is close to town, and very inexpensive to stay so we were able to ride four directions and take big 6-hour loops or as we call it shamrock tours.
Thank you Mount Nebo you and your staff did...
Read moreMy dad and I discovered Mt Nebo by pure luck. Talk about great luck! Two days into a week long motorcycle trip, we were looking for a place to stay in Dardanelle but it just seemed to busy. We got through town, pulled over and Dad asks "Where to now?" I had seen a sign pointing to Mt Nebo State park and thought maybe they'd have cabins or something. Just a few minutes later we find ourselves curling up some very tight switchbacks. Next thing you know, we've got a great place to stay and million dollar views.
If you like great views, enjoy a little bit of hiking, amazing pictures, great views, beautiful sunsets and great views, this is the place! Did I mention the great views? In addition to the great views (I think I mentioned those), our cabin was clean, full kitchen with stove, oven, utensils, dinnerware, a patio and grill.
Early in the morning, I went for a run around the park (about 3 miles) and saw deer closer than in a zoo, a couple box turtles and a beautiful sunrise. I haven't been able to see this far since I stood on top of Pike''s Peak in Colorado. There are also some hiking trails around that mountain that I would have loved to explore... Maybe next time.
We rode all over the state of Arkansas for a full week and this was easily the best place we stayed. Next time, we may stay there for a week and make it...
Read moreWe drove here from Lake Dardanelle state park, where we were camping. We're trying to visit all 52 Arkansas state parks and this was #4. We needed to drive here from Lake Dardanelle because RV camping here isn't an option for us due to the nature of the camp. The last 2 miles of Arkansas Highway 155 to this camp are incredibly steep (18º grade!) and winding (11 switchbacks!). No trailers longer than 24 feet are allowed, so our 30 foot Class C was out of the question. However, this was so much fun to drive in our SUV! When we got to the camp we noticed the old CCC buildings, which are such a well preserved piece of history. The folks at the visitor center were SO nice, in keeping with all the Arkansas state parks I've visited. I walked part of the Rim Trail with my husband, son, & our 3 dogs. It was 93º outside so that was miserable, but the views from this trail CANNOT be overstated. I sometimes take Arkansas' beauty for granted, having lived here all my life, but the incredible sights from the top of Mount Nebo reminded me! An interesting side note: deer! They were all over the place in the campground, making for some great photos. We'll be back in the fall so we can hike the full Rim Trail at a much more reasonable...
