I lived in a house that once stood within the Preserve back in the early 1960s. It was a wonderful place to grow up. Sheep were pastured on the corner closest to the intersection of Lemont Rd. and Oldfield Rd. There were woods all around us and there was a path through them to the Fredenhagen's home to the south. I used to play that I was Little Red Riding Hood and kept a sharp eye out for wolves. We used to attend Center Cass School which has long since been replaced by a Walgreens, We'd ski across to school using a route sort of parallel to Brookridge Rd. Read moreThis could be 5 stars but they continue to cut down Oak trees.. In the area where the Woods are meeting the Prairie they continue to protect the Prairie and cut down or burn up young Oaks that had already achieved a five to seven foot height. Sad that Oaks are considered the enemy and that Prairie is prioritized over Forest when it is called Forest Preserve.
Putting that aside it is a smaller peaceful beautiful neighborhood chunk of nature.

Huge diversity of oaks and other plant species, even though it is not a huge preserve there are woodlands as well as open prairie. Good parking and port a potties available.
