We went to Possum Creek to go fishing. They had plenty of small shelters around the pond. Update:5/15/25 I just want to add that I have experienced some great hikes here this year. I have been to Possum Creek five times so far in 2025 and have walked a different path/trail each time. I also just learned that there is a farm in the park too! I have a camping trip planned for the first week of June. I can tell you what I know so far about camping....I googled camping at Possum Creek and I believe the website for Metro parks came up. Possum has 5 campsites that range in the amount of campers allowed at each site. The cost is affordable but changes during time of year and weekends vs. weekdays. A bundle of wood is included in the cost but you may purchase more for an extra cost. All the information is included in the TERMS AND CONDITIONS. There's loads of information there at checkout that I didn't even think to look for when making my reservation. Another thing you should know, these are primitive sites (no electricity) be prepared for that. I hope some of this information helps. Happy Hiking 🥾 Update 6/4/25: just got back from our 2 night camping trip. We loved our site. The first night there was a lot of traffic in the parking lot, people in and out enjoying the weather. A couple argued a little in the lot but did not bother us. We had the Buckeye site. The trail to the farm was to the left of the site and another campsite (Tulip Poplar) was to the right. Up the trail by the porta potty was the "Lakeview" site. On Tuesday there was not a lot of traffic, it was quiet and peaceful. I do recommend to purchase extra wood, especially if you plan on cooking meals over the fire. I brought my Blackstone and cooked a few meals on it. I also loved that it was closer to home compared to other places I have camped. Thank you all for reading this really long post...

Came here to hike some trails so i did the orange one, was confusing where to start but atlas i found it. The trails aren't wooded enough for my taste but to each their own, this trail is alot of open field surrounded by high grass. The trail i was walking also had the grass a little higher than i would of wanted but i assume i just caught it at off day or something since it had rained the night before there was a good bit of water and mud which just made the outdoor experience better imo. One thing i really liked was there was an officer patrolling the parking lots which made me feel a little better about leaving my car parked there. It was an experience and i was there on a Saturday and only seen one person on the trail which was nice. One thing that bothered my is i am color blind and it was hard to distinguish orange and yellow trails I wish they would mark them with letters too but all is fine. Anyways would recommend checking out if trails is your thing! Also check out the fishing ponds they looked really...

Nice camps - nicer fire rings than normal, trash and recycling cans in camp area, all very decent sized.

Dog friendly - they have options that are away from other camps so if you have a puppy or dog that barks at everything you won't hear then go off constantly.

Fishing - no need for even a license to fish there so if you have family camping too there's no worry. Also convenient to get to. No long trip to yr fishing.

Firewood - This i was surprised about! They supply about a four day supply to you for free at your camp and it's nice and dry.

Atmosphere - It's nice and quiet for the most part. You do hear allot of city sounds... planes, cars and sirens in the distance but you can't help that really being so close to everything. I will say it's more quiet than any of the other major ones in the area.

Convenience - kina a tossed on that.. I like that it's close to us. No long trip. On the other hand I don't like those city sounds I previously mentioned. Firewood was a nice touch! Everything you need is...

Ruining nature with stupid woke style wellness signs! Before anything else, please get rid of the stupid mindfulness posters that litter every trail in this park; all they do is ruin the beauty of nature. Aside from that, Possum Creek is one of Five River's better metroparks. There is something for hikers, horse riders, and those who want to see a working farm. Apparently, the area used to be an amusement center many, many years ago and there are treasures along the trails with hings of the past (in the Argonne Forrest area). There are five ponds where fishing is popular - no permit required. Some are catch and keep, some are catch and release. The trails have both wooded and open areas with beautiful fields. Bring bug spray - horseflies are everywhere. Bring dry shoes/socks as many of the trails seem to have wet spots past which they struggle to get the mowers.

Don't listen to these jackass people sayin there's nothing but minnows to catch there. They stock trout and catfish but that's not my style of fishing. Stop drowning worms and get you some quality minnow style lures and you will catch fish. If u wanna camp in one spot and pay lake style fish you prolly wont catch much of anything. All these fish were caught over a few day period and many more were caught and just not photographed. Be mobile and hit several spots around the lakes. And BTW you can only legally keep Trout and Catfish. And bass from the big Argonne lake. The wardens do check your coolers for legal fish, so I don't recommend you trying to leave with crappie. Not worth getting the fines or your fishing gear confiscated. Tight lines my friends. :-)
