We went hunting hogs with Hog SWAT in Americus, Georgia January 31-February 1, 2025. There were 4 of us in the group, 3 from central Mississippi & 1 from Macon, GA. We stayed at the Windsor Hotel in Americus & Luke (our guide) picked us up Friday night at 6:30 from our hotel. We were first taken to a practice field for firearms & safety training. We practiced with our rifles & then we proceeded to a gas station where Luke filled up the van, we used the restroom & grabbed water & snacks for the night. Then we were off to the first of several hunting fields (mostly peanut farms) & after Luke surveyed the area for hogs we would join as quietly as possible & then set up & took our shots at his direction. Luke was the consummate guide. Very knowledgeable, answering any questions & always putting safety first. The equipment was also top notch, from the thermal imaging camera on the van to the thermal night scopes on the rifles. 2 of us had never hunted before, & 2 were experienced hunters. We all had a great time & after we had killed a bobcat he took photos & stopped at a service station for ice to keep our game for the drive home. He dropped us at our hotel at about 6:00 am. It was an amazing experience & I cannot recommend HOG SWAT & Luke more...
Read moreAs the Editor in Chief of a hunting/outdoor publication, I've hunted all over the world several times over. Pig hunting, even at night with thermals, is something my friends and I have done casually over the years from Texas through the Southeast. Hog Swat is not casual. It's actually one of the most professional outfits I've hunted with. Kevin (our guide) picked us up in a new model all-wheel-drive van that was spotless. Rifles were clean and organized in a rack. Thermals were all fully charged. Ammo was organized and secure. The van was outfitted with screens to view the top-mounted thermal camera's 360 degree operation. Kevin's safety brief was detailed but easy to follow. We confirmed zero on a nice shooting range, loaded up and headed out. Through prodding Kevin, I learned that he's a Marine Sniper, but it was already pretty evident by how squared away he was. We drove to a large property and hunted over peanut fields. Several in our group had never hunted at night and they were instructed throughout the whole evening. Everyone was successful. We killed around 20 pigs which I've only been able to do in Texas. I rate this outfitter as 10/10 and will hunt with them again. I'll request...
Read moreLooking back at my hunting experience with Hogswat, and all the hogs we took down, I have mixed emotions about it. Ranging somewhere between ridiculously fun and insanely awesome. Just decided, it was ridiculously awesome. Max, our guide, was solid. He gave very clear instruction, good tips, and got us right on the pigs. Every time I powered up my scope I was looking right at the side profile of a glowing pig (or 25 of them). While all of this was done at night, it felt very controlled and safe. Max clearly spent a lot of time studying all the fields in the daylight and had acute awareness of everything around us. He knew which farmers fields were taking damage and took us right there. While this is hunting, and there are no guarantees, I hope that if you go that you get as good of an experience as my group did. I am going to be laughing to myself for for a long time about: "DROP THE PEANUTS!". I can't wait to go back and slay the...
