
I went here to climb up Pilar Peak. First, park at the Camp 5 trailhead and walk in lost gulch rd. You can try to drive these roads but you will need a strong 4x4 vehicle or an atv to do it as these roads are an absolutely rocky mess. So while hiking you’ll wanna take the TR 8041 turn off and go a long ways up the dirt road. Once you get close enough to the base of the peak its time to bushwhack. The base is thickly bushed and it’s quite a steep climb. But at the summit is 360 open views all around.. beautiful.
This area is also a playground for atvs and dirt bikes all over 🤪 it was a loud morning. Be aware that if it rains that entire parts of the road...

We drove the camp 5 trail all the way though and out. It was intense. We got in the evening in flash flood rains. We camped on the trail stranded for half a day. The trail is doable in a slightly lifted 3in. With 33in tires on a 5th gen 4Runner and a 2.5in leveled Lexus GX460. No winch was needed but it was sketchy intense! Any rain in the area turns dirt to peanut butter mud slick and sticky thick. Nearly stopped...
