First let me start by saying that I don't normally write reviews, but after the events that transpired this past Labor day weekend I felt compelled to do so. I live just North of Pittsburgh, and the winery is about 75 miles away. My wife and I went there on Sunday to attend their end of season event. We LOVE their Deer Creek White. By the way all of their wine is excellent. Anyway, we purchased a mixed case, consisting of 5 bottles of the white and a mix of some of the rest. The place was very busy, and I never checked the box to make sure the order was correct. Drove home, and the next day when I opened the case, there was NO white. They mistakenly put in their other best seller Wilhelm Red, (which is also very good). I contacted them when they opened on Tues. to inform them of the error. Since We live so far away, I suggested that they just ship me the white with a return shipping label so I can return the red. Trish & Gary(owners) were both very apologetic, and actually had one of there employees DRIVE the wine to me. Absolutely unheard of today. They did so the very next day. To me this shows EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!! I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND WILHELM WINERY to any one who enjoys wine. Make the trip. It's worth it. We will be going back every chance we get. GREAT JOB!!!! and...
Read moreI'm not sure what's up with this winery lately, but the past two times I've purchased wine from them, the bottles have been undrinkable. First I purchased a cherry wine from a local supermarket, opened it a few days later, and had to throw it away because it tasted spoiled. The second time I purchased blackberry wine directly from the winery in Hadley, thinking the first may have been a bad bottle or just stored improperly by the supermarket. Unfortunately the blackberry one was just as bad. Very, very acidic, sour, and unpleasant to drink, with no discernable blackberry flavor. I hate to leave a low review for a local business, and clearly I'm in the minority based on the other reviews, but I can't help but feel disappointed that I essentially threw away $40. I hope others have better...
Read moreI spend a good bit of my time motorbiking around PA, sampling Pennsylvania wines whenever I come across new wineries. With that said, I came across Wilhelm Winery upon one of my most recent rides down from Erie and decided to purchase myself a bottle of their finest dry red to take home with me. Upon sampling my bottle of Chambourcin, however, I was surprised to discover what tasted more like salad wine than any former bottled red from any number of other Pennsylvania wineries. I don't normally care to post negative reviews, but this particular bottle appears to either be of a very poor vintage or perhaps a bottle gone bad. Judging from most of the previous reviews, I expect that spoiling is to blame. Please receive this as a cordial heads-up that necessitated pouring it...
