A few parking spaces at the trailhead. Actual trail starts off with a nice gentle slope and is easy to follow. A little more than a mile in though you reach a triangle intersection where the trail seems to split. If you are looking for the north mountain trail or even the bypass best to go right for just a few steps and your options become more obvious. There are a few distance signs and you can spot the white diamond blazes that take you steeply up towards the summit. If you had gone left the path is wider and seems more obvious but that direction quickly seems to take you out of the state park area and into private property.

Google Maps doesn't actually take you to the parking 🅿️ area. It takes you in-between the actual parking entrance and the overflow parking area. The actual parking area is right near the remains of a building and the entrance of the mountain 🏔️ trail. It is limited on parking spaces. The overflow parking area has a lot of space but doesn't have access to the trails. During the tourist season, you will have to pay.

Beautiful trail. I loved exploring the old cellar holes at the beginning. I want to find the Bartlett Family Cemetery as well. We went as far as the Chase Trail for more beautiful cellar holes and foundations and back. It was a clear, cold January day and the trail was not icy. We saw 3 other humans and 2 dogs all day.

This is probably my favorite local hike. These trails go for quite some time and though I spent a couple hours out there, I don't think I scratched the surface. It's easy at first, but gets tougher towards the top, very steep in spots. There is a big boulder field where people climb and kids can do some scrambling through the "cave systems" caused by all the rocks that fell. There are also a couple of nice ponds. One thing I wish I had was a trail map! I found one late in the adventure but it would have been especially helpful in...

Usually I go to the other side of Pawtuckaway and park in the main parking lot. I was happy to see Reservation Road is plowed in the winter. There were about 5 parking spots near the North Mtn. trail head. The trail was packed snow and easy walking for the first half mile, before going a little steeper. This is a shorter route to the fire tower than if you take the trail from the other side. Nice place to feel the mountains without driving too...
