Ive camped here multiple times arriving by kayak, using earthkinship.us kayaks and gear. I enjoyed both primitive tent camping and cabin camping. If your looking to have a quiet get away on a island with nature trails on water and land, included with some history and indigenous cultural information, you'll love it. If your the kind of person who needs catered food, entertainment and a pampered camping experience than you should look somewhere else. If you decided to paddle the river, Blue Springs is only 3.25 miles from the island, one way. Winter time in the best time too visit. No Bugs, camp fire is enjoyable and the manatee are in the springs as well as foraging the surrounding area. One evening I sat along the river harem of manatee started to forage on the aquatic plants all around me. One evening i decide to sit on the island's river bank to eat my dinner and a lager harem of manatee started to forage on the aquatic plants all around me. How can you beat the experience of dining with...
Read moreHORRIBLE camping experience! I went tent camping and the campground is so small and each campsite is so close together you hear every little noise from your neighbors (including them peeing in the bushes). The campground rules are that ‘quiet time’ is between 11pm and 7am. My second night there, there was a very rowdy group who stayed up all night until 4am drinking, shouting, blasting loud music, shining bright lights, and peeing around the campsite. They rudely and disrespectfully disrupted ALL of the campers at the campgrounds, and no one got any sleep. The next morning when I told the rangers, they said there was nothing they could do, and that I should just write a review about it. This ridiculous group of ‘campers’ ruined our last night camping for my group and all the other groups of campers, and the rangers could have cared less. I would NEVER camp here or even...
Read moreGreat place to go! We managed to book the 6 person cabin back in mid July, it was very spacious inside. The closed off balcony was good on a random Florida rain shower. The wet trail was great to walk with, although we didn’t get to see much animals when we went. Camping area had plenty of trees so it provided plenty of shade. The rangers and the staff from the boat, and convenience store were all nice and friendly. They had a small park for kids to enjoy and get all that energy out. Although when the sun is out the park gets really hot, but unfortunately that’s Florida for you. I dropped a star because the showers did not have a small bench to help put clothes or stuff while showering a toddler. So unfortunately it made it slightly difficult to carry and hang things in the door. Other than that we had a...
