Visited on Aug 11, 2020, with COVID restrictions in place. My wife needs a wheelchair for any distance over a couple hundred yards, so this is also a handicapped access review. The road to the main parking lot at the visitor center was closed (as was the visitor center). But the path to the falls and (pit) toilets were open. There is a small parking lot at the place where the road is closed. On a midweek morning it was almost full at 10am. There are a couple other lots a bit up and down the main road. The walk to the visitor center (and start of the path) was a little over a mile walk on paved road. Some mild up hill sections, but doable for me pushing a wheelchair. Much of it was shaded. The path to the falls is a boardwalk through the woods. It was very easy to push the wheelchair to the falls. There is a really nice falls just after starting the walk. The walk itself is a very nice walk through the woods, with various interpretive signs along the way. The main falls at the end was great. Beautiful falls, nice area with benches to sit and enjoy. Very much worth the long walk (long because the road was closed). I walked up the stairs to the top of the falls (obviously without the wheelchair). It is a long walk with a lot of stairs. It ends at the top of the falls, but you can't see too much from there. You see the top of the falls, but that's about it. The view of the main part of the falls can't be seen. If you will enjoy the hike, the steps are worth it, otherwise feel free to skip it. Bottom line. Great falls, nice walk - well worth the effort. But go early or on a weekday otherwise parking may be...
Read moreWe stopped here as we were passing through on vacation so my daughters could earn their junior ranger badges. The park ranger at the desk was very friendly and kind. The reason I'm giving it two stars is that the atmosphere just wasn't the greatest and it was not our favorite national park site that we've been to. The bathrooms are outdoors and are the compostable toilet types. My kids refuse to use these types of bathrooms and I wasn't aware of this when we decided to stop here, so we had to then find somewhere else to go which was a hassle. It was super busy and the people who were there and from this area were not very friendly at all. The whole vibe was off. There wasn't much in the visitor center and it was in the middle of nowhere with bad reception. It was definitely an older site with not many updates and more "camper"-esque. The Junior Ranger books were these huge newspaper style books with lots of pages and it was cumbersome to peruse. This is the 75th site we've been to, so we're familiar with all different types of junior ranger books, but this was probably one of the worst. It'd be helpful to have less pages, make it more straightforward, and not in a huge newspaper style that wastes so much paper. Either way, we got our cancellation stamp and badge and probably will never visit...
Read moreThis is a small hike Trail to a beautiful waterfall that's tranquil and peaceful, great for kids and family, not good if you're handicapped or wheelchair-bound or you can't walk a long time, I am asthmatic so it was a little bit of a trial because you have to park at the entrance and then you have to walk until your destination, there are plenty of seats to stop and look and take a break. One thing I will comment on is the safety the safety of the place is not 100% I don't believe it's safe for children unless parents are with them, I see small improvements like walking over the bridges they're replacing the platforms from wood to metal because wood is not always sturdy and weather breaks it down. I do think they should change the width of their stairs because they're looking at a lawsuit if someone was to fall, the width of the stairs should at least be longer than the length of your foot not small enough. You have to take these many little steps that you feet barely fit on instead of getting there in...
