It's a bit of a drive from my house but even with putting up with the traffic once I get there it's worth it. It's a great place to Crab fish or launch your boat. For the most part it's quite a restful place. There are nice picnic areas with grills available. Be prepared to scrub them if you want to use one. Otherwise bring your own. The floating piers are great. If you want to use one you need to get there early. They fill up quickly. That's okay you can still fish and crab along the bulk head. The scenery is great. The water, flowers and wildlife and nice to look at and take photos of. It's just a nice fun quiet peaceful place to go when you want to go to the beach but don't want the crowds. I'm planning on going crabbing there this week. I was checking the tide when I decided to write just a little about Assawoman Wildlife area. There's so many good things to say about this place that I couldn't possibly post it all here in a...
Read moreQuiet area off the beaten path. Information area had a map of auto tour, but there were no paper maps of the stops to describe them. First pull off is actually for deer hunters during hunting season, so it seems one part is the refuge area and part is for hunters. High observation tower gives nice views of surroundings. Fishing pier at Mulberry landing for crabbing or fishing. Large, covered pavilion as well as a single picnic table at edge of water. Peaceful and tranquil spot to bird watch. Large variety of water birds as well as forest ones. There is a memorial pond with parking by it. Overall, a serene place (off hunting season) to...
Read moreThis is a beautiful place to kayak and view some wildlife. We have paddled around here several times now. I prefer the calmer waters around Sassafras Landing. We have seen several Bald Eagles there. Strawberry Landing did not seem as good for launching kayaks. Mulberry Landing is nice but the water was a bit choppy for me. We saw quite a few jellyfish, crabs and muscles along the edges.
There is plenty of parking at the launch areas and the picnic tables and shelters are nice. In the past there were port-a-potties to use; but those are not currently in place with Covid19...
