My 8 year old daughter and I went out riding with a group on Saturday. We had never ridden before and neither had another 8 year old in the group. They separated the kids from their moms and put them together. While the ride was very enjoyable, something spooked my daughter's horse and it went wild. My daughter was dragged several feet by the horse until she was thrown to the ground. While we know things like this can happen, Sundance had zero emergency plans in place after the fact, I had to ask them to call for an ambulance. While I was waiting for the ambulance and trying to check my daughter out, they tried to have me fill out a form stating what happened and if I thought one of their employees was at fault. When Skip, one of the employees heard I had called for an ambulance he told me, "they don't like when we call for ambulances and don't need them." He said she just needed a bandaid in her finger. My daughter had road rash all over her chest and a large bruise on her neck, left shoulder and hip. I had no idea if she had any internal injuries. Thankfully my daughter is fine, but I will never EVER go back there. I'm sure this isn't the first time something like this has happened and it scares me to think people may not get the medical attention they need. I'd leave negative stars if I could.
As if adding insult to injury, the owner replied to this post with some things that were never said when this happened. I was never asked if I needed an ambulance at the scene, instead they brought a 4 wheeler out to pick us up. I was never asked why she was moved. The only response I got from apparently the owner was "they don't like us to call ambulances if we don't need them, ". And "she just needs a bandaid" which he put on her finger. When the ambulance got there he told her to walk out to it and I told him not to move her. The medics looked at her and said they thought she would be fine, but I insisted on taking her to the hospital just to be sure. Of course I refused the ambulance ride when I could take her there myself once I knew she did not need immediate medical attention. It is sad that the owner has chosen to handle this situation this way. This is the first time I have heard an apology even though I know that these things can happen. As a 23 year veteran police officer I believe I know when somebody needs to be checked out. And the owner should be ashamed of himself for not only trying to discourage me from calling an ambulance, but for lying...
Read moreThis was our second time attending. Our first time was absolutely fantastic! Not a single complaint! How ever this time was much busier and I know they are under staffed and have newer staff who are still learning but our “guide” was rude and ignored our complaints. I brought my kid who was riding for her first time ever. I repeatedly let that be known. The horse behind me on the ride kept biting the horse I was riding and I repeatedly tried to get Kaitlyn to address it and help the girl behind me understand how to keep her horse at a distance. Kaitlyn said “oh no that’s not happening” like what do you mean? We continued telling her she continued flirting with my partner and not helping. I guided my horse over to the other side of the trail to stop the biting she yelled at me when I then said again “the horse behind him is bitting at him” she said “oh not Louie no way” referring to the horse biting said he wouldn’t do that. But he was. She then told my kid to let me go ahead of her to which I said I wasn’t comfortable as my kid is not experienced and I didn’t want her horse reacting poorly to the nipping. She still would not listen. She made our experience unnerving. I hope she gets retrained. She was also incredibly rude and talked down to me repeatedly while focusing very hard on her conversation with my partner and texting on her phone the entire ride.To say it was uncomfortable is an understatement. It was...
Read moreLet me start with the good. The staff, stables and horses are all great! Sundance is a very nice place to visit. Now for the not so good. Their commercial bosts that they have over 200 acres and that they are open 7 days a week. They are not open 7 days a week and you will only see what feels like a few acres of trails. The ride is single file only and your horse may as well be tethered to the horse in front of it. We walked at such a slow pace that my horse had a hard time not butting into the horse in front of it. The ride was incredibly boring. Not to mention when you are halfway through, you basically circle back and ride about 70% of what you've already seen. With "200" acres I would hope there would be a more "open" ride experience. The single file ride was terrible. You couldn't communicate with other riders nor anyone you came with unless you were shouting behind or in front of you. We were able to trot near the end and for anyone that has trotted (or worse yet- those that have not) it is the bumpiest gate a horse has. Trotting is my least favorite. A gallop near the beginning would be far better, but then they would have to open up some of those 200 acres to accommodate that. Unless they change their ride, I won't be going back, which is unfortunate because I would love to see more of the 200 acres and have a true ride experience not what feels like a fair ride where the horse just walks in a...
