This historic home is well worth a visit. It's even worth a special trip to the area. Demopolis, AL is full of historic houses. A few are open to the public through the excellent work of the Marengo County Historical Society. Bluff Hall was built in 1832 by the slaves of Allen Glover as a wedding gift for his daughter. It was considered a town home and was situated on 10 acres rising above the limestone bluffs of the Black Warrior River. It is well preserved but not overly "redone". You defiantly get the feel of what this home was like when it was occupied in the 19th and 20th centuries. The best of all is that much of the furnishings including art and china are original to the home. There are many interesting stories as to how the pieces came to be reunited with the house. The kitchen, which was very grand and modern by 19th century standards, still has lots of implements. The grounds are complete with a log cabin and a cute gift shop.
