Had a bad experience with renting a kayak. Today, my fiance and I rented a double kayak and went off to the lake. He sat in the backseat (he is 250 lb, he knows how to swim) and I was seating in the front (I'm 119 lb and I'm not good at swimming). Nobody explained to us anything about the lake situation or kayaking there and they gave me an oversized life vest because they didn't have a small or medium size. After we got far from the shore, we realized that it is so windy and there were big boats passing by which also created big waves that were constantly coming towards us. The kayak was starting to get full of water at this point and lake Texoma is huge. I have gone kayaking several times in different locations and my fiance had done it once before. In other locations, they usually do not rent you the kayak if it is so windy. We risked our life by going far from the shore. When the kayak finally was full of water, we were really scared, and suddenly it turned over in the middle of this giant lake. Fortunately we both were holding the kayak while it was capsized in the water. While we were holding for dear life, we somehow grabbed my fiance's iPhone out of his pocket while trying not to drown and I called 911, and it was hard to get help from them because the connection was spotty at best. There was no way 911 could've found us in time. Hopefully, somebody down at a different shore had seen us earlier and thought we might need help and asked someone with a boat to come help us. We were so lucky. The situation could have gotten a lot more dramatic because the people who rented us the kayak had no idea that we were far, capsized, and couldn't get back to shore. So, be careful when it's windy, do not take this risk. Stay close...
Read moreReally enjoyed this spot. Easily accessible, not too busy, and the beach was decent. The problem that brought it down to 3 stars is the staff. We were told that we can park our jet ski at the end of the beach beyond a certain point. After about 4-5hrs of enjoying the beach and the jet ski, one of the staff decided that we cannot park it there. Instead of kindly asking us to park it elsewhere and explaining the situation, he chose to rudely demand we move it immediately. He was extremely hostile and confrontational to the point of almost having a physical altercation. He told us to leave and that he was calling the sheriff then stomped off like a spoiled kid. We called his bluff and told him we'll wait for the sheriff. Sheriff never showed. The other staff member was apologetic and tried to explain the issue, but at that point the behavior was inexcusable. We wouldve had no issue complying and would've been understanding had he not been on a power trip (or lack of). He also would've gotten a much better response if he wasnt confrontational. Otherwise, its a good spot, but we'll be considering other locations to avoid...
