It was great! I would definitely recommend this park to everyone who owns a dog or is just looking to go for a walk. The dogs have their own secluded area which has a fence. If everyone follows the rules that are clearly written on a board at the front of the park, I really don't see any accidents or damages happening. Cooperate to keep a beautiful and clean environment that everyone can enjoy. That means picking up your dog's business ( aka poop), and keep your dogs on a leash if they're out of the doggy area. The trails behind the dog park are great. You can really get a successful work out. The only things I would recommend is to put signs around, because people have clearly made their own trails that lead no where. It can be dangerous since there are snakes. Anyway, the city should install some sort of small signs or arrows around the trails. They should also install emergency poles where you click a button and it calls the police. I did notice that people leave behind their trash, so including trash cans would also be great. There's a trail that leads to the lake, but I don't recommend taking it. It appeared to be dangerous. Don't go wondering into the woods alone. Be safe and always tell someone of your whereabouts. Better yet, take a friend. This side of town is known for hooligans doing bad things in the forest, just look at all the criminal activity going on at Old Alton bridge. It makes me wonder why the city doesn't do something as nice as this for the people living around North Lakes. North Lakes needs a dog park of their own. They have plenty of space and a pond for the dogs to swim around. I think it would be a wonderful...
Read moreI take my 3yo husky here regularly during the fall/early spring months. No major complaints about the main fenced in grassy area, anything that happens in there that is unsavory is normally due to owner negligence or just a dog with a bad attitude. My biggest and most major complaint with this park is the "watering hole" type area directly adjacent to the big dog park. This glorified dirt hole filled with dirty water/rain runoff is full of very harmful bacteria. All it took was one swim in that dirty hole for my dog to get very very ill the following day. I acknowledge on my part as the owner that I should have assessed the risks with that sketchy looking pond but I saw many others and their dogs frolicking and splashing about in the pond so I let my dog do the same. 24 hrs later I'm sitting in the Denton Vet ER with a very sick dog. My regular vet (Dove Creek) told me upon her checkup that many other dogs have gotten sick from the same "pond". I believe the city should test this water and ultimately fill in this hole, it is not safe and is a breeding ground for very harmful bacteria. Sorry for the long review I just want to put out a fair warning to all to avoid that small watering hole. The larger pond that meets with the trails along the back of the park is not contaminated I am talking specifically about the smaller pond. I'm filing an official complaint with the city-which may be useless since this incident occurred back in late April but if I could save fellow dog owners a trip to the emergency vet and a hefty vet bill by letting the city know I will do so! Hopefully action...
Read moreIT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE THE STREET VIEW PICTURES. I cannot stress that enough really. Those pictures must be at least 2 years old, because there is a whole playground (it's awesome) and basketball court that are missing, and the parking lot is fully paved, and all of that was here when we moved here 2 years ago.
Now, to the dog park. There are 3 areas available. One for large dogs, one for small dogs, and one in the center that people use for shy dogs or for training. The parks each have a fountain that is in operation MOST of the year, but closed during the freezing months.
The park is located adjacent to a large, undeveloped plot of land that has a small pond the dogs can cool off in, and walking trails cut through it like an ants nest. You can walk around for hours in the woods. Since it just rained, we spent 90 minutes navigating the watery, muddy trails. The dogs loved it. The marked trail will lead you from the backside of the dog parks, where the pond is located, all the way up to the parking lot, the playground, and about 100 yards out from the playground, across a large open field where people often play fetch alone.
We love Wiggly Park for the whole family. We pack a lunch, hit the dog park, walk the trails to the playground where the kids play until its time to eat. We picnic at the pavilion and the kids play until its...
