High Park has a wide range of amenities such as baseball and softball fields, a sand volleyball court, multiple playgrounds for kids, a large pond and a creek for fishing, covered picnic areas, and a walking and biking path with different fitness areas and benches along the way. Pets on leashes are welcome and there are stations that provide bags and trashcans for clean-up, and even a drinking fountain that also accommodates dogs. It is a very scenic area with large green spaces, trees lining the creek along the walking/biking path, and docks on the pond as well as a fountain feature. Wildlife at the park includes a number of ducks and geese, squirrels, rabbits, and a variety of birds can be seen mainly in the forested area, and even the occasional deer wonders in. There are many family oriented events held there...

Pretext: During the pandemic, cabin fever was quite a problem in my household.

This is one of the cleanest, most lively parks in Derby. The park visitors are nice, plenty of restrooms, and great paths. The abundance of scenery and open fields, with beautiful ponds with fish jumping. Never empty, something is always going on like soccer games. There is plenty of wildlife such as ducks, geese, and many other birds. Excellent bird watching. The hours are great too as I work long shifts and it is open til 11pm.

Never feel like I'm about to be mugged like parks in Wichita. Very safe and inviting.

Just don't look the geese in the eyes. They are very protective of thier children, unless you bring...

This is probably ranked second best in the city of Derby, KS. Very busy place during the summer.

They have playground, pound, ball fields and plenty of running space.

Dis-likes: They rent softball fields during the summer for national tournaments but they don't have enough parking to accommodate event. Leaving no place but grass areas to park and risk getting ticket.

A portion of park is the city's tree limbs, tree's and yard debris disposal site. So a busy day for them is of course on the weekends. Some days they may be burning limbs or brush and hopefully you're not right at the softball fields. Bad planning City.

Would recommend if burning of debris is not being done...

This park is great for families! The playground on the north side of the park is our favorite. There is a shaded Pavilion with clean bathrooms. The playground is great for toddlers all the way through upper Elementary. They have wonderful sidewalks for biking or walking. Open fields for playing soccer with the family or catch. The only downfall is that the playground does not have any shade, only the Pavilion next to it.
