Have always loved this place. One bigger concern I'll voice is that the signage could be way better than now. My family went swimming on the 10th for my daughter's birthday. Her siblings and friends get out and we go over to the side to take a birthday picture of us all with the early sunset in the back ground we noticed a sign off to the side stating that it was contaminated by e-coli etc. no one seen it before going in, both signs were on the sides where no one goes really to swim. And the print was small, and nothing to make it look like a warning to anyone. Nothing in the parking lot or by the water or on the sidewalks, not even by the concessions. Ok I get the whole it's risky anyways it's lake water. Besides all of my kids and friends were in it, But my heart old grandson and his newly pregnant mother was in that water as well. That's not ok. Nobody seemed to get it thank God but they wouldn't have even been in it if we had seen...

On the southwest side of the lake there are some portions of the path that are completely covered with trees for shade, which is nice on a hot day.
The playgrounds around the lake are excellent as well. The shelters are a perfect place for hosting a special event. We even had a bachelor party at one of the shelters!
The recent renovation of the main shoreline on the north side is awesome. There is a lot of time, effort, and resources put into making this a great place, and it...

Great 4.1 mile trail around the lake. The signage at the park says the Mark Ackelson trail is 6.2 miles, but that includes some out-and-back appendages of the trail. If you just follow the trail around the lake, it is 4.1 miles. Smooth pavement would be great for bikes or rollerblades.
There's a red covered bridge built in 1875 (built at a different location in Polk County and then moved here in 1965).
Lots of great fishing spots, tons of grills and...
