Pete Crivaro Park — Attraction in Des Moines

We rented a shelter here for our child's 8th birthday party. The price of outdoor shelter rentals is fantastic, and the park itself was great. The splash pool was deep enough for the kids to have fun, and the shelter was clean and well maintained. I can definitely recommend this park and shelter rental to anyone looking for a good place for a kids' party.

Two things make me give this four stars instead of five. First, there was no indication that the water would not be on until 11:30. The website didn't indicate this, and no signage at the pool said this either. While it wasn't a huge deal, it meant that there was little for the kids to do for the first part of the party, and we would have started later had we known that. (Also, even the drinking fountain didn't work until the water was turned on, which seemed a bit unnecessary, and meant the kids who wanted some water couldn't get it.)

Second, the city employee who turned the water on stayed with their child, which wouldn't be a big deal, but they were also disciplining other people's children for not following the posted rules. The pool specifically states it has no lifeguard/employee on duty, so we were uncertain if they were meant to be doing this or not, but it really rubbed many of the parents the wrong way, as they were calling time outs on kids who were...

I took my 10-year-old nephew disc golfing here -- his first time disc golfing -- and found the course to be a fun introduction for him. Better quality than I expected. I do recommend giving the course a quick run by yourself if attempting something similar, as the signage isn't perfect, but it's fairly straightforward. 9 holes. Can manage with just a mid-range or a mid-range and a putter. Other park amenities include: a playground, basketball court, water area/wading pool, and some benches here and there. Have been there about 3 times in June for family outings and birthday celebrations. Park is clean especially the restrooms. On the 2nd visit, no attendant was available, so the pool and splash pad wasn't available. 3rd visit on the 4th of July, the Women's restroom hand dryer, (the one near the stalls), sparked and blew out as I was using it, I had to switch to the other one (near the door). Just went again on this past Saturday for a Birthday celebration....
