Read moreGood Evening, I live at 3608 Holborn Detroit , Mi., directly across from the GM Zero plant, lived there all my life of almost 62 years, seen my church Immaculate Conception Parish torn down while I was an alter boy, for the plant, & my across the bridge ( so to speak ) torn down, but we managed in the name of progress, now we are to start the GM Zero Center, the President of the US, as well as the Mayor have been there to deliver speeches from the plant, now at 62 , I am asking a favor , for all my last say 40 or so years, I have picked up every piece of paper, cut all lawns, called the city on signs issues, tree issues, road issues and everything else to keep things beautiful in the neighborhood, the favor I am asking is: could the plant join me in helping me with the issues outside of the plant fence, the perimeter of the entire plant is hardly drivable, the right lane on Mt Elliott, you wouldn’t need a front end alignment, you could lose your whole front end, the entire outside of the fence has some many knocked over signs, the outside grounds are so full of bottles & trash, the trees that were so beautiful when GM first opened are either one here, one there, or none at all, the streets and sidewalks are full of bumpers torn off cars, garbage, bottles, clothing & dumpers items, the streets on my side & GM’s are dirty & dusty, my favor is to ask for help to make the outside of the perimeter look as nice as the grass maintained on the inside of the plant fence, the city doesn’t help here, so could you take it under consideration, Thank You,...

If a foreign government obliterated 465 acres in the middle of a major American city, causing the destruction of 144 local businesses, sixteen churches, two schools, and a hospital, it would mean war. Poletown tells what happened when these same actions were carried out by the City of Detroit and General Motors. Poletown is the story of the only group in Detroit to oppose the construction plan: the Poles and blacks who fought side by side to save their neighborhood, one of the city's oldest integrated...
