Thank you to our Parkland St. Neighbors, of the Far West Detroit, for caring for across the street from their homes for mowing, & caring for the beautification of Rouge Park. Donna Hall's husband, & she, are very diligent in giving many hours of their time mowing a huge portion, way back from Parkland, across several parcels. Donna also maintains a beautiful little grove for butterflies, frogs, birds, & deer (for years). She also teaches groups of children from all walks of life about Mother Nature, & the Circle of Life. Julian Hall (not related), & Scott Steffens, have continued to work hard picking up trash all along Parkland, right into Rouge Park itself about 1500 ft., from W. Warren to W. Parkway; & W. Parkway to the light at Joy. This is an act of love to counter-act the thoughtless people driving thru, throwing their garbage on the road, & into the park - littering, without regard for our beautiful Rouge Pk., & Far West Neighborhood. Both gentlemen have always also volunteered for Work-Bees such as Motor City Makeover annually. We have another "2 family homes", on West Parkway, to thank for making Rouge Park grandiose & welcoming, so pretty - upon entry into a our Far West jurisdiction at the light on Joy Rd. @ West Parkway. If you look at the N. E. Corner of Rouge Park, you will see a well maintained, mowed, beautiful flower garden. This piece of Art has been kept up voluntarily for years by 2 different families - for all to enjoy. I wish I knew their names to publish, as they certainly deserve well earned recognition for their hard earned work. We have another loving, Animal Rights lady, Pat Schoenberg, who has devoted her life to Animal Rescue - not only in our Far West Detroit, in Rouge Park for so many regularly, cruelly throw-a-way pets, & out side of these perameters. This dear Lady, and the others named above, truly make our Far West Neighborhood, & our Rouge Park area we are so blessed with, a very desirable Neat Neighborhood to reside in. Our City of Detroit "Parks & Recreation Div." must also be mentioned here, for the youth they hire & train each year, to help in mowing & upkeep of Rouge Park. We're a beautiful area with many attributes, & good neighbors. Sincerely;...
Read moreI golf here multiple times a year and sometimes its a good experience and sometimes I wish I went elsewhere. Me and my guys always have an early tee time and every time we show up we have to wait for the office to open up so we can pay and get keys to a cart. At one time the greens were all dried out and had the color of hay. We always have to wait to tee off at no fault of our own and they regularly run out of carts. This last experience seemed to be issue free. Yeah, they were late opening the office as usual but no big deal. Greens looked great. We had 5 guys because a 6th dropped out at the last minute so with the the course managers permission we were able to go out as a five-some. We had 2 tee times booked so it was no big deal. As we get to the 3rd hole the ranger pulls up on us as a guy is about to drive and starts yelling that we can't do what we are doing. None of us had a clue what he was talking about and it was the 5th person. We explained that we scheduled 2 tee times and the 6th guy dropped out but he did not believe us. Just kept accusing us of wrong doing. So he literally sat up on us for 10 minutes interrupting us teeing off until he confirmed that we were telling the truth by making a simple phone call. This guy was unnecessarily argumentative about something that he could have found out on his own before accusing paying customers of wrong doing. I love my city but damn this was uncalled for. Never had issues like a late start, office not being open, and rude rangers at Chandler Park's golf course. Maybe the management at Rouge needs to get some tips from Chandler Park on how a golf course should be ran and how to deal...
Read moreIf you are looking to take your kids to a nice PLAYGROUND, there is a nice one in a lesser known corner of the park, at W.CHICAGO and WEST PARKWAY. This playground is bigger and better than the more commonly known/used one at Joy Road and Spinoza, which has the tendency to get overcrowded. In contrast, this one over off Chicago is very nice. My 8 year old suggests that "It has great slides and a fun catwalk," and my 9 year old says "It has a lot more interesting things to do, that are not usually found at our local playgrounds." This nice little area also is a great spot for a picnic/BBQ, as there are picnic tables, grills, and even a well kept bathroom facility. There is one pavilion there as well, though I assume it may need to be reserved at times. We have lived by Rouge Park for years but just recently stumbled across this 'wing' of it, and are glad we did. One little tip, the block of West Parkway adjacent to this (south of Chicago), is closed, apparently permanently, which makes this 'wing' a LITTLE harder to access. (Though it probably also helps to keep this little 'park within a park' less crowded). At any rate, you'll have no problem getting to it if you come down W.Chicago, which is easy to do from Telegraph, or from INSIDE THE PARK you must use OUTER DRIVE TO ACCESS IT, since it (Chicago) cuts off at Outer Dr and resumes on the eastern edge...
