Hudson Mills is one of the best parks around. It was built on the ruins of Hudson Mills, an abandoned mill town on the Huron River. It's at the intersection of Dexter-Pickney Rd. and North Territorial. It's on the Border to Border trail, so you can ride and walk to Dexter (5 miles) along the river. Inside the park, there is a large, modern playground that has equipment for both toddlers and older children. There are other areas throughout the park with swings and slides. There's a ranger station with concessions and nice bathrooms. There are a few different locations to launch kayaks. Pavilions are available for rent and there are many picnic tables scattered throughout the park. The highlight of the park is the 2.5-mile path around the park perimeter. There are bridges and very pretty scenery, especially along the river. You can stop and put your feet in the water during the summer and watch the kayakers. It's absolutely stunning in the fall and a popular place to have photos taken. Most of the path is flat, but there are two hills that can be avoided going out and back from the meadow view area. There are soccer fields in the park and it's usually busy on the weekends, which can make parking more challenging. There is an...
Read moreI come for the disc golf but the park has everything from playgrounds, athletic fields, biking, kayaking, and more. Well maintained, with bathrooms and dining halls (currently the dining is closed due to Covid-19). $55/year passes are better than the $10/daily passes and with the money. You'll also be able to visit multiple other Metro Parks. The disc golf courses (there are two) are both very well designed for pretty much all levels. Make sure you go into the building near the disc golf parking lot to get your disc golf armband. Or you can get them from the booth as you enter the park. They are currently $3. The Original Course is somewhat easier than the Monster course, with both being very birdie heavy from the short/am tees, and the pro tees on Original being moderately difficult. The long/pro tees on Monster see much more difficult, and there's even a handful of alternate, or champion baskets, on I believe six or so holes. Make sure to stop at CJ's party store on your way and whether you're playing disc golf, kayaking, biking, whatever...
Read moreAnother outstanding course within the Metroparks system. Maybe I’m easily impressed, but… As a senior (55+) walking 18, my rate was $19. You simple cannot find a more affordable course (all the Metropark course are similarly priced). Easy online reservation system, friendly staff, first class agronomy. Huge practice green. No driving range but it has two cages with free balls to hit for warming up; same as Kensington. The course isn’t difficult; a few dog legs where, if you cannot shape your driver, maybe club down to something that gets you around the bend in two straight shots. Tee boxes are generous and in great condition; fairways are wide and were perfect; greens would be perfect but for a noticeable amount of unrepaired ball marks. I wasn’t in a bunker, so I cannot speak to their condition. The courses are gems and I hope that people enjoy them and that the park system continues their great job in maintaining them. I’ve tried four of them this year and will play a fifth next week (Brighton). Haven’t been...
