My wife and me took our 4yr old grandson that we are raising and spent 3 days camped out in the Davy Crockett National Forest. I am from the deep piney woods of east Texas so an opportunity to spend time there I always enjoy and take advantage of since I live almost 3 hours west of the piney woods now. Where we were camped at was a great location. The other campers there, most all flying their Trump colors like us, were all good neighbors. We did not even see a deer this trip much less kill one. The trip was more for our g-son than it was a hunting trip and he had a blast. We got to spend time with my cousin and family which is always priceless to have, time with family. Regardless of where you go to camp, always leave the woods better than you found it. The National Forest belongs to all of us. As long as the Forest are taking care of, we all will still have them for the our kids...
Read moreFirst you need to make sure they have available campsite or RV site before you drive. This place is very well organized and managed. Great for friends, family, and solo camping. There's a 20 miles hiking trail you can hike, but if that too much for you. There's a 4 loop hike around the campsite will take you by the lake to the picnic area and back to your campsite. Hammock are allowed which is Awesome! Showers/ bathrooms get clean daily. There's a fire pit NOT a grill by the tent campsite. You will need grilling net or your own grill. I used the foil to wrap the good. Couple tent campsite are close to each other for a group camping. If you have a truck you can find a fire wood around the park and bring it to your campsite( save you some money) You can use a boat ( NO Motor) in the lake to fish. There's a hardware a store/ beers about...
Read moreWe stayed at the Ratcliff Recreation Area for 3 days camping. It was absolutely beautiful and quiet (except for some highway noise). We brought our dog, and he had a blast as well! Most people followed the rules by keeping their dogs on leash, saw a couple without but they were well behaved at least. Trails are easy to navigate and were well taken care of, there's even an accessible hiking trail for people with mobility aids! Love this! Restrooms were cleaned daily by camp hosts and we're very clean and stocked with TP, but no soap dispenser or paper towels/hand dryers. Showers worked great, hot water came on quickly and stayed hot! Overall 10/10 camping trip and we'll definitely be back to do...
