This welcome center is located along I-95 South as you enter into the state of South Carolina. The last time I stopped at this welcome center was six years ago. At that time, it was pretty bad. What a nice change now as I stopped in here on August 23, 2022.
Once you come into the welcome center/rest area, the building definitely looked new and modernized too. The building is much bigger than before with lots of info. After checking out the inside, I used the restroom and also talked with the staff at the counter. I was talking to them about how much better this is now compared to my last stop there six years ago. They agreed and were glad to have this change as well. The staff were very welcoming. I love that the inside has pictures and stuff for all parts of the state. It does help with immersing yourself with visiting this state.
After that, I went outside for a bit to take a few more photos including the building and some park and picnic table areas. This is a very spacious welcome center. Although the welcome center is staffed from 9 am to 5 pm, restrooms are available 24 hours a day.
Overall, what a great change and update to this welcome center. Six years ago, I said to avoid this place like the plague. This is a complete turnaround and is now an awesome place to stop at along your travels. I highly recommend stopping in here if your travels take...
Read moreFamily Restroom & swings - Excellent ideas So glad to see a Family Restroom which is definitely needed everywhere.
Problems: We used newly renovated family restroom on right side of building. Poor construction. Water squirts all over out of faucet when on. Water runs all over counter top and runs down the side to the right and of the counter top to the floor. This is a huge risk/safety problem. The granite top is NOT level. The faucet is too high and not adjusted properly. The workers must have to clean the Family Restroom so many times each day due to water all over floor so no one slips. Water all over floor under hand blow dryer. Shoe dirt tracks through the entire restroom area which the staff probably cleans all the time.
Great idea - 2 swings out front of facility.Very nice, relaxing idea.
Problems: looking at poor / sub quality landscaping - dead plants, not watered, not taken care of, no weeding, dead grass, etc. Dead plants, dead trees, etc. So many need to be replaced. Funny - we have had a lot of rain so why is everything dead?
Whoever reviewed this project when it was finalized did not get contractor to complete work properly. Need to go back and make them correct all these problems. Not sure got what...
Read moreLovely, welcoming, clean. Outside you’ll notice the relaxing bench swings on the veranda inviting you to sit down and relax. Inside the large foyer of the welcoming center there are comfortable chairs for those who wish to sit, wait for others, read or relax. There are 3 friendly attendants looking to help you almost the minute you slow down to look at the large state map or sign the guest list, or stop and gaze at the huge display of brochures organized along one entire wall by area within South Carolina that you plan to visit. Near each chair is a stack of 4x6 inch Monster coupon booklets stuffed with coupons for attractions, shopping, dining, and more— the booklet was small in size but filled with over 120 pages of great discounts. The restrooms are clean and well maintained, large and well lit. South Carolina has what might be the nicest welcome center and rest stop combo in the...
