Took our money, lied to us, and wouldn't refund it. In the end, they made it somewhat better, but not fully. We came to visit the Village because we had originally wanted to go on the airboat ride with the Miccosukee across the street and the lady there could not tell us when the next airboat ride would be and would not sell us tickets until she knew but figured it would be around an hour (this was 10:30ish am on a Sunday). So we jumped over to the Village to kill some time and see what they had to purchase. We had no idea there was a Village tour. The Lady selling the tickets explained that there was an Aligator show, a guided tour through a bunch of people from their Tribe demonstrating the life of the Miccosukee, and finally, a museum featuring their culture. We love learning about other Cultures and paid $25 each for the guided tour. We were told to go wait for our tour to start.. only to be told first that the tour guide was late, then that most of the demonstrators were not there do to a late event the day before, then to be told there wasn't enough paid tickets for the Alligator show, and then finally that our guide just wasn't going to show up.. so we could go to the 2 manned booths ourselves and walk through the museum and leave... but we could come back all day in case more people showed up.. we had other plans for the day and asked for a refund.. since we wouldn't be getting what they advertised, and all we had done was sit on a bench for 20 mins waiting. They refused to refund us, stating that we could come back later in the day, and once you pay, they will not give money back. I pushed back a little, and the young lady very abruptly with attitude walked us back to where the Alligator show would be in half an hour and left us there... no conversation, no guide, no expectation setting. Finally, a supervisor (the Show announcer for lack of better words) showed up.. explained that the Tribe had a celebration going on, and that's why they weren't there. Understandable, we all have things in life, but do not sell tickets to things you know won't happen then. Let your customers know up front what they are paying for so they can choose if it's right for them! She apologized, walked us to the museum, let us walk through there, and then put on the Alligator show/employee training for us, and then we left.. $50 for a 15 min informative show and 15 mins in a museum. I'm glad the money goes to supporting the Miccosukee, but we will not be back. They can do so much better than to lie to their customers and refuse to refund when they can't offer what they sell. I'm sure it would have been very nice if there was a tour guide, demonstrations, people, and a normal show, but we...
Read moreDuring my visit to the Miccosukee Indian Village I was deeply moved by the opportunity to immerse myself in the rich history and culture of the Miccosukee people. The experience was more than just a glimpse into a unique way of life; it was a journey of learning, respect, and appreciation for their deep-rooted traditions and values. From their profound connection to the Everglades to the artistry displayed in their beadwork and crafts, every aspect of their culture resonated with a sense of pride and resilience.
One of the highlights was learning about the tribe’s history and their determination to preserve their heritage despite the pressures of modernity. The stories shared by the tribal members were both eye-opening and inspiring, giving me a newfound understanding of the importance of cultural preservation.
The culinary experience also stood out, especially the delicious fried bread. It was simple yet flavorful, embodying the warmth and hospitality that was felt throughout the entire visit. Each bite was a reminder of how food can be such an integral part of cultural identity and connection.
Overall, my visit to the Miccosukee Reservation was not just an educational experience, but a powerful reminder of the resilience of Indigenous cultures and the importance of honoring their histories. It’s an experience I’ll cherish and reflect on for...
Read moreWas traveling south I decided to go the back way. Instead of going 75 to Miami. I was on a one-lane highway headed to who knows where through the Everglades. I found this beautiful Indian village. A lot of very interesting artifacts videos, clothing, jewelry. And beautifully displayed crafts they made.. I definitely recommend if you're traveling that way to check it out. The alive alligator show had a lot of very interesting facts about Miccosukee Tribe. And how they handled the alligators and use them sell or trade. I can't believe I held a baby alligator. I told my friends" I can handle anything that's handed to me."🤣 Of course is mouth was taped shut🐸 There's also airboat rides available. I recommend. to purchase those tickets in advance or go online. Besides the incredible view all the way there. It was a very interesting little village with so much history about the Everglades. I highly recommend it if you love nature. One of the many reasons I'm so grateful that I live in Paradise. A vacation is a...
