DO NOT GO TO EVENTS!! If you want to let the kids play on the play ground or wander about the farm then Landmark Park is fine but when they advertise an event they embellish so it might as well be called lying. My family and I have been to two events and both were a robbery on our wallets as well as a HUGE waste of time. The first event being the watermelon festival, when we arrived their "festival" was a man under a pop up tent and a card table with two watermelons and that was that. We tried to make the best of it but just ended up leaving. We gave them a second try when we they advertised Astronomy Night: a night of stargazing with a high class telescope, bonfire, hay rides, and planetarium show so we called and made reservations (which they instructed was a pressing matter). Excited, we pulled up to find their so called "bonfire" was a sawed in half oil drum with embers, the hay ride no where to be seen, and a dangerous walk about the grounds with NO lighting. A person in my party twisted their ankle as we struggled to make our way to the planetarium. Once there we walked up to pick up our tickets for the show and the woman informed us there were only two tickets left (we had a party of three). We asked what happened to our reservations and she told us there weren't any. Shocked we sat and watched an out of date documentary about planets. Tired of waiting for the next show (which was an hour and a half after the first) we went out to go stargazing (still on unlit paths) to find many people looking around confused, their was no telescope to be found, the man was gone. We went up to tell the women at the counter and they were surprised to find the man had left. Shocked and 21$ poorer we made our way back to our...
Read moreI really enjoy coming to this park, it is incredibly well maintained and in the past couple years they have really built it up and expanded it. And it seems like some of the staff has been here for years and they are absolutely wonderful. I've been to many of the old houses they have here several times, but I still like to go inside and take a look. Even though nothing changes with them. They have a little general store there with old-timey fountain, sodas and floats with ice cream. The general store also has this very strong ginger ale that is just so wonderful to drink and if you are a fan of ginger ale then you should give this stuff a shot.
Today they had a bluegrass and BBQ festival and it was really great. I had a good time listening to the bluegrass music, however, I think next time it would be great if they could get a real barbecue company to come in and do some local barbecue like Smokey Joe's. I think the barbecue they had may have been store-bought but I do not know that 100%. That's just what it tasted like. It was still fine though.
There are some bees if you're exiting towards Hartford highway, however, the bees here just seem to be a little bit more aggressive than what I'm used to working with, I seem to always get stung at several times, even just viewing from 15 or 20 ft.
Entry to this place is only $7 and there is so much to do, it is definitely worth the visit by yourself or...
Read moreI grew up visiting this place and now I take my own children to visit from time to time. However, this past Saturday my husband and I took our son to picnic and enjoy the outdoors and I've noticed that they don't keep the appearance of the place up like they used to. In the Waddell house they obviously have a rodent problem as I could see where something was eating into the mattress and pillows. There was a huge pile of cotton under the bed and other piles of paper in the corners. Also, the Watson house just seems to be forgotten all together. Nothing was cleaned and just looked abandoned, the animals were all out of water and we even mentioned that to the lady in the General store. This has always been a great place for a day outing, but it's slowly deteriorating and little to no care seems to be given. We are very disappointed at how these iconic buildings are...
