General Coffee State Park proved to be a delightful escape, and our stay in Cabin 1 was particularly enjoyable. Despite the visible scars left by Hurricane Helena, the park's inherent beauty still shines through, a testament to both its natural splendor and the tireless efforts of the dedicated staff.
Cabin 1 itself was a true highlight. We were immediately impressed by its impeccable cleanliness and thoughtful layout. The kitchen was exceptionally well-equipped, boasting a four-burner electric stove with a full-sized oven, a microwave, and a toaster. While it's worth noting there were no spices or food products (which is typical for cabin rentals), it provided all the essential dishes, pots, pans, and glassware one could need for a comfortable stay.
The bedrooms mirrored each other, offering ample space and comfort. Each featured what we believe were two queen-sized beds, separated by an oversized nightstand. A dresser with multiple drawers and a large mirror provided plenty of storage. Just past the dresser, and across from the foot of the furthest bed, was a single sink with a large mirror, with a convenient closet to the left. To the right, a full-sized tub with shower offered incredible water pressure – a definite plus after a day of exploring.
While the park is still recovering from Hurricane Helena, the natural beauty is undeniable. We observed firsthand the staff's diligent work in getting everything back up and running. Speaking of the staff, every single person we encountered was remarkably friendly and genuinely engaged in conversation. Their genuine care for the park and its visitors truly shone through, making us feel welcomed and valued.
For those traveling with their furry companions, it's wonderful to know that Cabin 1 and Cabin 4 are dog-friendly, a huge bonus for us as we always travel with our "babies." We will absolutely be returning to General Coffee State Park, and specifically look forward to another stay in either Cabin 1 or 4. It's a testament to a park that, even in recovery, offers a truly welcoming and...
Read moreThis was the most perfect "quick getaway" ever! So peaceful but also offers plenty to do! The park is gorgeous; well maintained and clean. The individual sites are huge with room for ALL the necessities of camping- our tent, chairs and vehicle didn't even put a dent in our space. Each camping area has a "Campground Host" whose job it is to make your stay comfortable and safe; Chuck & Patsy from Camground #1 were our hosts and they were fantastic! Both the men's and lady's room have two shower stalls (and a washer and dryer! ☺) so you can clean up after spending the day out walking the trails, fishing, hiking, etc. Addionally, for those who prefer to camp in a cottage as opposed to a tent, they have you covered; one cottage is even dog-friendly. They offer paddle boats, canoes, kayaks and bicycles for extremely reasonable hourly rental fees as well as a pond area to fish from. We absolutely loved the mini farm where they have goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, geese, pigs, two donkeys and a horse. The goats, ducks, donkeys and horse all eat very gently from your hand and LOVE apples, oranges and bananas. The geese, ducks and chickens will eat bread and nuts/seeds if you toss it to them. Additionally, we liked the fact that the gates are closed at 10pm which helps make you feel secure and EVERY SINGLE staff member we spoke to or dealt with in any way was beyond pleasant and very well-versed in their profession. I can't say enough about General Coffee State Park... this place was phenomenal in value, beauty and things to do. By far, the best state park I've ever visited and I can't...
Read moreNice state park - We did enjoy our stay here at the park. Staff is friendly and park is nice to explore via vehicle or walking.
We stayed 2 nights at the Burnham house in early June 2022. The house is a great example of old house built in the 1800’s. Beds are comfortable. TV, satellite and DVD player are provided in the living room. Kitchen has basic needs met, with a microwave and coffee maker. We did not use the stove or oven. I would recommend staying here, but not sure there is enough to do for more than a few day. The park was not crowded at all - as a matter of fact, very few folks around. I suspect that has you got nearer to the east side of the park (by the river) there were many deer flies which is a strong deterrent. It is close to Douglas, about 15 minutes drive, which makes for convenient for grocery and...
