This park is wonderful and wonderfully huge. There are picnic tables, soccer fields, walking/running trails, a circuit course, and (of course) the kids' castle. My children love this place and it has changed over the last decade, even needing a Save Kids Castle Park campaign.
As you can see from the pictures, there is a LOT to keep the children occupied: the kids castle maze, two swing sets, a modified two-child swing, a modified merry-go-round, and a pirate ship. There are both rubberized ground and wood chips to keep the kids safe from the inevitable falls all kids have.
There is also a new electronic addition (I'm not sure how old it is). But it's a NEOS outdoor game system. This game takes place on a concrete pad (necessary because of the electronics), so let your children play but please make sure to set some ground rules to keep them safe--especially since kids of all ages and sizes from all over the area frequent this playground.
The only drawback to the park is lack of available bathrooms. There is only one bathroom that is central to the park and all its amenities, but it's a hike from the kids castle playground area--which means, if your child needs to go and needs to go now, I hope you've brought a change...
Read moreLove this place. Lots of climbing and relatively tame “adventuring” for little kids. For those not yet brave enough to actually go in on their own, there are swings and climbing structures directly adjacent to the castle, and the main play area is fenced. Parents still need to be willing to venture into the maze that is the castle interior for when the kids conveniently can’t hear you call out that it’s time to leave (or genuinely get overwhelmed by suddenly realizing they are alone). Deducting one star because (to best of my knowledge this is still the layout): a) ambitious kids can climb over the fence behind the castle, thus exiting the playground proper — and there’s a small creek beyond; and b) restrooms are about a one to two-minute walk, uphill. Yes, at least there ARE restrooms, and they’re not that far; the location may have been chosen for aesthetics or ease of plumbing installation or some type of green space preservation — some logical reason. For hyped-up little ones, however, it can be viewed as a trek, and unfortunately the walk puts the castle out of parents’ line of sight. One may wish to corral the gang for a...
Read moreFantastic playground unlike any other! Main focus is a 3/4 story wooden castle. Besides the gigantic wooden wonder there are several different equipment stations to play on in a large variety of styles/uses. I'd say that the focus age group is 2-15 although it really is all inclusive for kids of any age with equipment & swings suitable for young toddlers & areas that older children can spend hours playing. As for parents the best parts are that it has a wooden fence around the entire area with only one exit (not gated/closed off) so that when the kids pop out of view you know they're still there! The fence has several different benches built on it spaced at a comfortable distance from each other. It's such a bonus for parents to have a place to sit & keep watch within the perimeter. It's so preferable to being left standing around or stuck awkwardly clumped in a single bench area with people you don't know. This way your comfortable while you're kids have an...
